Taste and smell

I’m interested in opinions on taste and smell during covid please.

I tested positive at the beginning of the week, no illness symptoms. My taste and smell haven’t completely gone but they are dull, really dull. I go nose blind very quickly and I think I can smell bacon most of the time. I can smell different smells, like if I go into the bathroom I can smell soap or into the kitchen I can smell toast, but it disappears quickly.

How quickly did yours come back if you only had very mild or no illness symptoms? How long did it take before your taste/smell began to come back?

Poor DH has none whatsoever but he has started to taste certain things a tiny bit, like a fleeting sensation.

Had covid back in April 2020. V mild symptoms for a few days but taste and smell dissapeared totally for 9 months. Nothing at all. Not even a hint. Then gradually started to return. Periods of dissappearing again then returning and also periods of phantom smells before returning to normal. Hope yours returns quickly. Not tasting food or smelling flowers or cut grass or the sea was grim for such a long time. Hopefully it returns in time for your xmas dinner Xmas Grin

Oh I really feel for those who have had this for a prolonged period of time, it’s such a horrible side effect.

I had covid at the beginning of the month. Mine went completley on Day 4 of covid. Couldn't smell or taste a thing. 7 days later it started coming back gradually. It's now been almost 3 weeks since I tested positive and my taste is almost completely back although some things still taste a bit weird. Smell is still effected, some things i can smell others smell strange or of nothing but it's getting there. Hope yours and your DH's smell and taste improve soon.

First dose of Covid in Feb 2020 sense of smell disappeared for 3months. As it was returning I frequently woke up smelling a burning smell.
Second dose in September 2021 ( I am fully vaccinated) sense of taste disappeared for a few days, sense of smell for a couple of weeks.

My smell disappeared almost completely but only for two days then it gradually came back. I don't think I would have noticed if I hadn't been looking for it, but I kept sniffing things to see if I could smell yet - I must have reeked of White Musk. Taste only slightly affected which is odd as you'd think they were connected. And I did have a feeling that I could smell a faint smell of cigarette smoke for about a month afterwards, on and off.

My partner had barely any symptoms but totally lost his smell and taste for about 3 days. Suddenly lost it, suddenly come back! He was lucky I think. I'm on day 8 and can smell some things up close but taste is still tasteless!

Mine was only gone for a Day and a half and I had a bad cough and spent two days in bed so don't lose hope.

I’m 3 months on and it’s getting better. Smell around 60% and taste about 90%. Some days better than others.. can’t say it’s bothering me too much. Occasionally I wish I could smell a bit more but I forget most of the time! Helpful with my toddlers nappies 😂
