PCR Taking ages or lost?

DD tested positive via LFT on Sunday, ordered a PCR test to be delivered. Didn't want to put any risk on anyone by going to a testing centre.
Test arrived Tuesday afternoon- had it back in the post within an hour.
Been waiting, and waiting, and waiting.
Called 119 yesterday, told me I'd called too early, I needed to give e 72 hours after I'd expected the test to arrive for results, especially now as they're receiving a lot of tests.
Today I've received a reminder to send the test back, I tried to call them to see if they could even check if the test has been received, 20 mins in a queue, then the phone just went silent. Argh.

A flipping WEEK tomorrow. Luckily DDs symptoms are mild (if the LFT was even right!)

Is this normal at the moment? Usually we do tests in person with symptoms etc, but given the positive LFT I didn't want to encounter anyone and risk passing it on, but its taking so bloody long..

This is the 3rd week out of the past 4 where atleast one of us has had to isolate. Driving me mad.

And now I'm unsure where we stand because what if the test has got lost? When can she leave the house? Will I need to send off for another PCR and wait for the results? Another week?
