The only three possible outcomes of this pandemic for 2031.

Curious to know if anyone disagrees.

Assuming you're not a hermit, then yes.

HeatonGrove · 18/12/2021 13:59

That is a quote from the former German health minister, Jens Spahn.

Blubells · 18/12/2021 14:14

That's true - he said soon everyone will be either geimpft, genesen oder gestorben.

I guess it will be very difficult to escape Omicron. But hopefully it's mild that we can all be 'recovered'

nether · 18/12/2021 14:15

But shit if you've got cancer, as the vaccine may well not work

FreeBritnee · 18/12/2021 14:16

Why 2031?

MarshaBradyo · 18/12/2021 14:19

Do you mean 2031 or typo

This is from German health minister but by end of winter iirc - people seemed to accept it

Svara · 18/12/2021 14:27

I think 'recovered' makes more sense than 'cured', as for the vast majority no treatment is needed. Even that doesn't fit for all the people who only get it asymptomatically.

Chessie678 · 18/12/2021 15:15

I think this is more true now than ever with omicron but not sure a lot of people really believe it. There is still a lot of talk about avoiding risky behaviour, staying safe and protecting others and so on which doesn’t make much sense if everyone will get it anyway.

I get that some caution is to do with avoiding isolation over Christmas or waiting until you/ family are vaccinated again but I don’t think there’s really wide scale acceptance that everyone will get this sooner or later.

The policy response to a virus which everyone is going to get should be totally different to one which it might be possible to eliminate though.

ReeseWitherfork · 18/12/2021 15:18

I was wondering how pandemics ended. I keep meaning to do some reading on previous ones. Surely this is pretty much the headline though?

Peakedtoosoon · 18/12/2021 15:19

Most people I know seem into accept it just a matter of time before they get it. They also seem comfortable with the idea that whilst they might be quite unwell for a week or two, they'll recover fine because either they're young and healthy or they're fully vaccinated (or both).

I had "it" last December and am fully vaccinated so I don't feel particularly vulnerable, but it is worrying that there's still so much ause for concern when the population is so well vaccinated.

Peakedtoosoon · 18/12/2021 15:20

I think most people avoiding "risky behaviour" currently are trying to avoid being ill/isolating over Christmas, not avoiding getting it ever.

womanity · 18/12/2021 15:25

My aim has always been to not get it during a peak. If you’re going to get it, get it early or late so if you need help help is available.

I looked this up and previous ones seemed to last about 2 years I think
SenseSphere · 18/12/2021 16:06

What is there to disagree with?

Blunt, but accurate.

PuzzledObserver · 18/12/2021 16:52

You can still catch Covid if vaccinated (though less likely). So you could be vaccinated + recovered, or vaccinated + dead.

However, death is more likely for the unvaccinated than the vaccinated (though recovered still the most likely outcome whether vaccinated or not)

How many unvaccinated people will still not have caught Covid by the end of this winter? No idea. I suspect a minority.

Ah, well obviously that's why I didn't realise it was a direct lift ...

oooo - I like that "ge -" repetition ....

Disagree. I think some people just have natural immunity to certain things.

No it was deliberate as a time well into the future and clearly after this pandemic.

It’s the German past tense, like our -ed.
