Covid and Nursery after isolation

DD due to start nursery Monday - we have covid and need to isolate until Tuesday.
Due to go in on Wednesday - but nursery are asking for a negative LFT.
I imagine it's unlikely that the LFT will be negative as it can remain positive for 90 days... what do I do?!

Find alternative childcare childcare Wednesday? Take the day off?

Milkshake54 · 18/12/2021 13:25

I'm not worried about the one day... Hmm I'm worried that we all could test positive for up to 90 days.
In which case am I supposed to find alternative childcare for 90 days?

Has anyone else's children had covid and had the issue of still testing positive post isolation? How was it managed?

Lateral flows generally don’t pick up dead virus (that’s what the much more sensitive PCRs do sometimes detect after infection).

I tested positive on a LF until day 9 at which point if turned negative. I’ve tested negative ever since. Loads of friends & family have had similar, with some finding LFs went negative on day 7 & some more like day 11..

You should be fine with LF. PCRs are trickier, if nursery ever demand those .. why don’t you try a LF now? Might put your mind at ease if it’s already negative!

Ps. When they say not to test for 90 days, they are specifically referring to PCR’s, not LFTs!

AD80 · 18/12/2021 13:57

No they can't enforce that. It's still possible to have a line days or weeks after the 10 day isolation.

Explain the situation to nursery?

My daughter had a positive lateral flow last Sunday. Pcr test came back Tuesday as positive. Every lft fine since then has been negative

It's pcr that's most likely to show positive for up to 90days

We only had 2 left after trying to order but nothing coming - which was making it more stressful - but the postman has since been and our box turned up (finally). Still positive day 7... so hopefully in a few days it will turn clear 🤞🏻. Not a strong as it was on day 2 that's for sure!

If the child has had covid you do not need to do tests for 90 days. Explain that to the nursery. Guidance online is very clear about it too.
