Figuring out isolation period

Do we get help with this?

DS started with a sore throat on Wednesday AM, continued in to Thursday, then Friday woke up with a temperature - we got a PCR test as per the guidelines and this has come back positive this morning. It says to isolate for the 10 days inclusive of the day of symptoms starting. Is this Wednesday or Friday?

Ask Track and trace when they ring? They should be able to tell you.

Onehotmess · 18/12/2021 11:20

Wednesday- first day of symptoms

dementedpixie · 18/12/2021 11:23

T&T probably don't count the sore throat as being symptoms of covid as its not on the official list

Neolara · 18/12/2021 11:25

Will track and trace call? My Ds has just had a positive test on PCR and wasn't expecting anyone to get in touch.

JanglyBeads · 18/12/2021 11:28

Why wouldn’t T&T call? Apart from the fact that they’re about to be overwhelmed;.

Track and trace call only for under 18s (have just come off the phone). For over 18s you fill in an online form. Re length of isolation, it is 10 days from the first day of symptoms (or test if no symptoms). So we first got symptoms on 15th and have to isolate until the end of 25th Sad

I pressed "post" on my comment above and 10 seconds later T & T called!

TreeLawney · 18/12/2021 11:43

Wednesday would count as day 0, then another 10 days after that. So last day of isolation would be next Saturday ie out of isolation on Boxing Day.

Idontlikeworms · 18/12/2021 11:52

My ds had symptoms on Monday and pcr Tuesday. So am I right in thinking it's the 24 he can be released?? T&t called both times whilst I was working. Expecting a call from them today.

Cindercat · 18/12/2021 12:02

Symptoms on Monday = release date of 23:59 on 23rd.
Mon 13 - Day 0
14 - Day 1
15 - Day 2
16 - Day 3
17 - Day 4
18 - Day 5
19 - Day 6
20 - Day 7
21 - Day 8
22 - Day 9
23 - Day 10

Thanks for all the replies! We're in Scotland so it's not T&T up here I don't think. I wasn't sure if the sore throat would count as it's not one of the "official 3" symptoms. That would have the 24th as our last day then provided no one else develops symptoms between now and then?

In England it’s 10 days after day of symptoms / test so 11 in total. Is it different in Scotland?

We have Test and Protect so they should contact you. Think our 10 days includes the symptom day but dont know whether they count a sore throat as a symptom
