I lateral flow test him every single morning. All negative, including today.

He had positive cases in his class discovered on Wed. Kept him out of school Thurs & Friday.

He had a temp last night. So I took him for a PCR this morning.

This would be the first Christmas we'll have spent with my parents in 4 years so I'm desperate for some hope. They live abroad so were due to fly next week.

It's going to be positive isn't it... Sad

@Peachyqueen

Yep, Ds(3) had fevers all week. 2 negative LFT and 1 negative PCR. Turned out he had bilateral ear infection, but because we had to wait for the PCR test to come back his antibiotics and recovery were delayed by 2 days. Hmm
The doctor wouldn't see you ? That's weird. My DD also had a temp and the doc saw her straight away. Didn't even mention getting her tested. She had an ear infection too.
Peachyqueen · 18/12/2021 11:35

Nope, wouldn't do anything til he'd had his results back.

onlyreadingneverposting8 · 18/12/2021 11:37

Yes - we were treated in hospital for a VERY high fever and heart rate. Given IV antibiotics but they decided probably viral when blood cultures proved negative. That was in October. She has had covid in July anyway.

blueflowersinthesnow · 18/12/2021 11:37

Yes, several times. It is not necessarily covid, other illnesses are available.

So strange. My doctors have never asked me to test her.
hopeishere · 18/12/2021 11:40

Why are you testing him everyday? That's excessive.

glutten4punishment · 18/12/2021 12:34

He's a close contact.

Nearly every week this term, yes

Senso21 · 18/12/2021 12:37

Many times for my kids over the past year! Fingers crossed x

Clareyck · 18/12/2021 12:44

I have 2 kids and a husband with a temperature and a cough and they have all had negative pcrs

glutten4punishment · 18/12/2021 12:52

Another parent has just informed the class that her child's PCR came back positive despite all negative lateral flows.

Both of mine had temperatures and a negative pcr.

Bobholll · 18/12/2021 12:56

Yep loads. My poor kids have had at least 20 LFTs this winter & about 5 PCRs .. coughs, temps, close contact 🤦🏼‍♀️ They’ve had one positive test each. And that time, they had no symptoms. I had it so I tested them!

ohreallynotreally · 18/12/2021 12:58

Grandchild has had numerous pcr because of high temperature..all negative!

zebrapig · 18/12/2021 13:00

Yes. DS had cough and temperature, PCR was negative. GP had already said it was viral.

saleorbouy · 18/12/2021 13:04

There are many things that can give a child a temp. Kids had high temps before Covid so there's a chance it'll be another illness.
Unfortunately the assumption is every sniffle, cough or temp is Covid until proven otherwise!

Sully84 · 18/12/2021 13:04

Yes, twice for daughter and once for son. All negative and while there were cases in their class. Loads of other viruses going about.

WakeUpLockie · 18/12/2021 13:06

Yes, there are lots of other bugs.

liveforsummer · 18/12/2021 13:23

Absolutely loads of viruses cause high temperatures including the common cold. My dd is just at the end of her covid isolation however she's been dodging positive cases in her year group since September including close friends and staff. I think about 80% had had it over that fine by the time she got it: To be honest I was surprised when she did test positive as assumed she must have had it asymptomtically to have avoided it that long so the odd case in your ds's class doesn't mean he'll definitely get it. I hope you make it on your flight.

badlydrawnbear · 18/12/2021 13:24

Yes. She was also a covid contact in her class, but didn't have covid.

makinganavalon · 18/12/2021 13:36

Yes probably about 4 times! Plus it's two hours there and then two hours back to the test centre for us! Very tiresome but there are definitely other viruses available!!

IfIwasablackbird · 18/12/2021 13:39

Children get temperature with all sorts. I don’t know why you would jump to it being covid if there are no other symptoms.
I test these two if they have a temp but more recently it’s been a chest infection, tonsillitis, chicken pox, one virus…

VaguelyInteresting · 18/12/2021 13:39

@GuckGuckDoose

Similar to us. PCR needed at least once a month pretty much every month....

Having an asthmatic kid during a respiratory pandemic is 😬

Ginfilledcats · 18/12/2021 13:39

Yeah all the time, don't worry until result comes back

IfIwasablackbird · 18/12/2021 13:42

@VaguelyInteresting same here! Prone to viral wheezes from the slightest cold and the poor love has had to have so many. At least we always get put in a room when she gets admitted now.
