Should I get another PCR test?

I am deeply confused about what is going on!

DS (7) came home from school on Wednesday with a tummy ache, and by bedtime felt a bit hot. The next morning, yesterday, he had a sore throat and minor cough, and I also had a sore throat.

We did lateral flow tests and while mine was negative, his was instantly positive. We all went for PCRs.

Since then, he is fine and I still have a minor sore throat and have had a chesty cough since about lunchtime yesterday. His PCR has come back positive, mine and DH's are both negative.

I thought that maybe I just wasn't far enough along yesterday for it to show, but I've just done another lateral flow after coughing all day (moderately, not horrendous, and feeling under the weather). 2 of them, both negative Confused

I had symptoms when the first PCR was done, do I need to go for another one? Can being vaccinated mask the virus in LFTs?

Just trying to decide if its even worth the resources when we have to isolate until Boxing Day for DS (Christmas Day is his Day 10). But we had relatives coming over on Boxing Day which, if I was positive, would be my Day 10.

I'm just finding it hard to believe it's not what I have, has anyone had similar experience and ended up with a positive PCR after negative lateral flows and days of symptoms with covid in the house?

Ahrg! Advice please Confused

Yes you should do another test. LFT don't pick up every case, and you have a new persistent cough.

Dp caught covid 10 days ago.

I and symptoms after him all week - cough, chills, aching and all tests (pcr & lft) were negative. Finally tested positive at the weekend. Not sure if I had another virus last week or the tests weren't picking it up.

It can change quickly though. My pcr test on Friday was negative. My lft on Sunday was positive. Previous pcrs lft's had been negative despite symptoms!

@Whinge I had the cough yesterday when my PCR was done too, so it's not new in that sense.

@AD80 I guess I'll get another one tomorrow then, its just so weird, DS has had basically no symptoms and I'm the one testing negative! Hopefully tomorrow's won't be negative too, it will be a pain to go and get a third, but so it goes I guess... it makes no sense to me but I guess our bodies all process it differently!

Ah ok, from your posts it seemed like the cough was new after the test had been taken.

Is it just the 1 PCR you've done each? Are you absolutely sure they all got registered to the right person?
