Sad for my dc

I'm very sad tonight. DC has a hobby they adore and had a special day tomorrow doing it. They have been very anxious for the past year and it took a lot of encouragement to get them to do this.
Just had an email saying it's been cancelled due to Covid. I really do understand why - we're in a high infection area, but I'm so sad for all the children who were involved.
I don't know why I'm posting really, just feel that we are sometimes dismissing the impact all this is having on children.

did you not have an inkling it may be cancelled?

Bubblty · 17/12/2021 18:18

I would have prepared for this happening last week tbh

MumbleCrumbs · 17/12/2021 18:18

I know OP it really is so shit at the moment, and has been for so long. It's really hard wanting to get the kids to be excited about things, but then worrying you'll have to cancel/have it be cancelled and them be even more disappointed. I understand and I'm sorry they missed out on something fun that they were looking forward to Flowers

Until yesterday evening everything was being planned and organised. I was surprised it was still going ahead tbh, and had the thought it may be cancelled, obviously hoping not. It's still a shame though

Thanks! I am rule abiding vaxxer (!) so realise the issues. Just sad isn't it. After everything since March 2020

I had a sad moment today too - my child has been doing a hobby since Jan 2020 and is quite involved. It just occured to me they usually have a xmas party and in the 2 years she's been there hasn't been one. She doesn't even know really that "hobby big xmas parties" are a thing :( . She doesn't know - it's fine - but she's just the age to enjoy them and all the school things etc she's missed out on it's sad. I'm really hoping our santa trip tuesday happens...

MajorCarolDanvers · 17/12/2021 18:34

What a shame for her. We are having things cancelled too.

Our children are missing so much because if this damn virus.

IgneousRock · 17/12/2021 18:35

Sorry to hear this OP. I agree it's really sad for our youngsters.

@ninnynonny

I totally agree with this - I don't know why I'm posting really, just feel that we are sometimes dismissing the impact all this is having on children.

Thanks everyone. I wasn't sure if I was over reacting

I get it. Though at the stage where after the nth thing is cancelled everyone gets fed up!

The Christmas disco was cancelled two weeks ago at my dd’s school. She’s 5 and she just said “oh ok” despite having been excited about it. I do wonder if children today are so used to things being cancelled it’s increasing their resilience about it. Which in turn makes me sad.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 17/12/2021 22:10

We don't mention plans to the last moment now. I don't even tell them DH is coming home for the weekend until he's 30 mons away at the soonest (often I let him surprise them).

DD2 was supposed to be doing Young Voices in January and its been postponed to an unspecified future date.

worriedatthemoment · 17/12/2021 23:02

Starting to see many plans cancelled , my ds play sport games and training cancelled until next year
Its caught us all out again this year just a few weeks back it looked like we could do some fun things albeit with some caution
