Positive LFT 2 days after booster

I had my booster on Tuesday, today my son was sent home from school due to close contact with someone who tested positive. He was absolutely fine this morning but by the time I picked him up from school it was clear he was poorly. (I can’t get him tested as he is severely autistic and it is not physically possible, believe me I’ve tried).

We got home and I started feeling a bit crappy so I did an LFT and it came back positive.

I’ve been trying to find information online as to how it will affect me since I only had the vaccine 2 days ago but I can’t find anything, Does anyone know if I will be affected more because I’ve just had a tiny dose (from the booster) and now I actually have covid too?

Tia

The vaccine/booster is not a dose of Covid it’s just an inactive protein used to train your body to recognise the virus. My understanding is that the vaccine/booster will not cause a regular LFT (antigen test) to be positive. It could cause a positive test on an antibody test but they are not the regular LFT tests. Most likely you got infected shortly before or shortly after your booster. The vaccine/booster doesn’t give immediate immunity - I think it takes about 7 days to have full effect. I think you should check the criteria for a pcr - unless it says not to get one if you just had the booster I think you probably do need to get one and to isolate meantime. Sorry!

I think the booster gives partial protection after 7 days and it's full level of protection after 14 days. Looks like you were extremely unlucky OP - hope you feel better soon.

Thank you both for responding, I’ve got a PCR test booked for tomorrow.

I’m in exactly the same boat. Booster yesterday and positive LFt today. Have body aches. Pcr test booked for this afternoon. Was it your booster you just had? Interested to hear how you get on

Loo your aches might be from the booster? I had my booster yesterday (and feel terrible today) my legs are aching like mad x

danni0509 · 17/12/2021 12:13

Number, my ds is autistic and I’ve got more chance of winning the lottery than getting a covid swab up his nose Grin hope your feeling ok.

Number4224 · 17/12/2021 12:22

Yes it was the booster. I felt bloody awful when I woke up today, luckily ds seems ok (apart from being up all night because he spent a lot of yesterday sleeping!
He’s not eating and drinking as much as normal but other than that he’s ok. My sense of taste and smell has gone so everything tastes weird so he may feel the same but as he’s non verbal he can’t really tell me. I’ve got a banging headache and feel sore around my ribs, I’m not really coughing but have a temperature and am veering between being freezing cold and boiling hot. I can still get up and get things done at home even though it’s a bit of an effort. I’m sure I’ll buck up by Christmas 🤞

I forgot to mention the bigger picture, my husband and daughter currently have Covid and I had a pcr test result back yesterday that was negative so I went along for my booster. Explained the situation but that I had tested negative on a pcr and they said have the booster if you want but you may feel worse if you caught Covid soon after as your symptoms will Be exaggerated. Woke up feeling achy this morning and done 2 positive lateral flows. An asthmatic as well. Just wondering if it is the vaccine that is causing the symptoms and the positive lateral flow test or if I actually have Covid (most likely I think) x

niceupthedanceagain · 18/12/2021 08:18

I know someone who had the booster then tested positive on pcr a couple of days later; has been fine after 2 days, felt like a cold.

Loo19 · 18/12/2021 09:03

@niceupthedanceagain thank you that’s reassuring. I feel awful currently hope it doesn’t get any worse x

AD80 · 18/12/2021 09:08

You'll likely be fine. Given how many people have been vaccinated and how much covid there is, loads of people would have had covid at the time or jab or close by. I don't think there's any major issues it's just the over lap of symptoms. I hope you don't feel too bad and on the mend soon.

I hope your son is okay too. I totally get the testing thing. Ds is autistic too and testing is traumatic for him. Dp had covid last week and we didn't know how we'd manage the testing and isolation! We did manage to get a home test done on him - with much persuasion. Turns out Dd did catch it and the test picked it up despite being a terrible attempt at a swab. He had symptoms for 24 hours, now fine. The isolation part is hell now. 9 days of being better! He's allowed out Monday!

Hope you both feel better soon 💕

Just wondering if it is the vaccine that is causing the symptoms and the positive lateral flow test

It's not a live vaccine and it cannot cause a positive LFT. Sorry.

I hope everyone on this thread is feeling better soon.

I can still get up and get things done at home even though it’s a bit of an effort. take it easy OP. Try to rest if you can.

Same here. Booster Monday, felt unwell enough to take the day off work Tuesday, positive lateral flow on Wednesday. (covid confirmed by a PCR done later that day). I feel very fortunate in that after a couple of days of feeling like I had a head cold (headache, sore throat, runny nose, coughs and chills) I actually feel ok physically. Now just trying to get my head around self-isolation and being away from my children (they were with their dad and are obviously now staying for the duration). Hope you have a similar, relatively light experience
