Anyone who has tested positive recently and had contact with track and trace were they able to tell you which variant you had?

Also at what point did you hear from them?

We got DD’s positive PCR result on Sat. Test and trace couldn’t tell us what variant she had.

They tried to call on Sat but the line was so dreadful I couldn’t hear them. Then emailed a form to fill in re contacts on the Mon, 2 days after result. They forgot to send the email with account number needed to login and fill out the form so rang me back the next day.

Not all PCR tests are tested for specific variants. Many are standard PCR tested which means the results come back quickly, this doesn’t identify the variant. It depends whether your PCR is sent for standard or full geonomic testing. Full testing is normally batch tested. One of my friends works in a testing lab.

my son has covid. He was sent a kit to take a blood sample to post off to check if it's omicron.

Thank you I thought I’d heard about all pcrs showing if the sample had a gene dropout which indicates it’s likely omicron but I wasn’t sure.
