To think we soon won’t be isolating even when we have covid.

If covid is spreading as rapidly as it seems to be, surely people who have tested positive but who don’t have symptoms/aren’t feeling ill will have to carry on working. The country will stop functioning otherwise.

Not reduced in Scotland Sad. Will be kept at 10 days to show how cautious we are, whilst the economy collapses around us.

Iggly · 22/12/2021 07:50

I’m not sure why they want to reduce the isolation period with reliance on lateral flows. Especially as some (bloody flow flex) throw up high rates of false positives (!) and some will miss infections. So it would make things worse.

Surely they could come up with better lateral flow tests.

HesterShaw1 · 22/12/2021 07:52

Well it's obvious WHY they want to do it isn't it?

To try and minimise (a bit) the number of working days lost.

HesterShaw1 · 22/12/2021 07:53

Ah sorry, just read (and understood 😁) your whole comment not just the but my early morning brain took in.

Will go and have some coffee

siestalady · 22/12/2021 07:53

Really good news. I hope this means a lot of MN can have the family Christmases the were hoping for.

For those less happy about it, I was trying to remember if there was similar pearl clutching when isolation was reduced from 14 to 7 days?? I don't remember

MarshaBradyo · 22/12/2021 07:56

So pleased about shorter time, I’ve been thinking it good idea for a while as have others

Overthebow · 22/12/2021 07:59

Great news, definitely a step in the right direction. This will benefit so many people.

Momentsmatter · 22/12/2021 08:01

Yes we definitely need this to happen. This week whilst watching people going out and having fun before Christmas, we are all staying in so that we don't test positive for Xmas. None of us are worried about covid, in fact most of us have had it and it was not even as bad as colds I've had. If we didn't have to isolate when positive but feeling ok then my dc would be having fun too this week.

Awalkintime · 22/12/2021 08:05

So shorter isolation periods to deal with staffing yet if you come out of isolation on day 7 then you have to WFH and avoid crowded areas, poorly ventilated spaces and vulnerable people.

So the new measures will have little impact on services.

HesterShaw1 · 22/12/2021 08:11

That's the advice isn't it. They can't not say that

Awalkintime · 22/12/2021 08:12

That is sad that your child doesn't have fun in your house or that you can't provide fun things for them when they are at home.

Yes but if you work in a crowded area with poor ventilation with vulnerable people - then the policies in the workplace will have to reflect the guidance and so you will still have to stay off.
Berlinkreuzberg · 22/12/2021 08:16

Pearl clutching ? And there again is the othering Sad

VikingOnTheFridge · 22/12/2021 08:16

Well. Depends exactly what the legislation says. Workplaces don't necessarily have to follow guidance that isn't legally binding. There are some who'll feel it's too risky not to, others who won't take that view.

HesterShaw1 · 22/12/2021 08:16

Well obviously they haven't thought things through.

They never do

DorothyCotton · 22/12/2021 08:20

@DorothyCotton

I'll put a fiver on them cutting it to 5 days or whilst having symptoms first.....until things really stop working then I reckon isolation will be scrapped for those jabbed and boosted. Get your papers ready folks.
I'll claim my fiver now thanks Boris.
Awalkintime · 22/12/2021 08:20

My workplace has to whenever there is new guidance we have to follow it to the letter as will other settings.

Yes agree you’d have to look at workplace specifically

Precisely
EasterIssland · 22/12/2021 08:24

@DorothyCotton it’s 7 days ;) no £5 ;)

Bugger. I'll make my claim again mid January then when the Christmas infections peak and society grinds to a halt whilst everyone sits at home......Xmas Wink

NovemberNovemberDarkNights · 22/12/2021 08:39

@Bagelsandbrie

@NovemberNovemberDarkNights but if everyone keeps isolating when they feel well enough to work we will have NO NHS or public services at all because the whole systems will collapse at this rate - and that is catastrophic for the very people you’re talking about (people who, like me, have on the whole been triple jabbed and are unlikely to suffer major complications with covid now). People need to stop thinking that covid is the biggest threat to vulnerable people now, because it really isn’t

I'm CEV as well & disagree with you.

My good friends uncle is in hospital, due to renal problems. One of the surgical staff was at work with covid (I presume asymptomatic during the operations), now the entire renal ward (4 middle aged/older men (55-75) have covid & her uncle is in a very bad way. How exactly is that helping?

Like with noro or heavy colds, people should not be at work spreading it around!

Paywall!

Could you copy and paste?

After this miserable experience of being isolated within the house I'm not doing it again for anyone. Would rather move out.
