Queuing for booster with an appointment?

Fedoos · 16/12/2021 17:46

Me and DH have booster appointments booked for next Tuesday afternoon. If the vaccination centre is also offering walk-in jabs are we likely to have to wait in an hours-long queue or do they still prioritise appointments? It's likely we'll need to take our two young children with us so just want to be prepared!

Appointments are prioritised near me

WhoWants2Know · 16/12/2021 17:46

I think most have switched from walk ins to only booked appointments now

Giveaschitt · 16/12/2021 17:47

They usually have a seperate queue for the walk-ins.

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 16/12/2021 17:47

A colleague just had his and was waiting an hour past his appointment time due to walk ins.

Sally872 · 16/12/2021 17:48

I would think they have appointments to allocate to walk ins and will be available for scheduled appointment.

Had mine went well but still 45 mins in total I would avoid taking the kids if at all possible.

FlickyCrumble · 16/12/2021 17:49

At our walk in they were doing 1 walk-in to 6 booked appointments and there was 10? booths. Wouldn't take the children I would take it in turns. I had about a 30 minute wait with about 15 people in front of me. Other places are quicker. My friend walked in and and out in 15 mins at a different centre. Another friend with an appointment waited 40 minutes.

I volunteer at a vaccination centre. Please be nice to the volunteers and staff, even if you have a long wait. We are quite literally running outside in all weather for hours at the moment and you wouldn't believe the amount of abuse we get from the public.

WakeUpLockie · 16/12/2021 17:55

You just say you have an appointment when you arrive, and go straight to the checking in desk. At the one I went to at least.

Scarby9 · 16/12/2021 17:57

At ours you queued to the right for booked appointments and to the left for walk-ins.

LefttoherownDevizes · 16/12/2021 17:57

At ours we had two queues, one for walk ins and ones for booked appointments.

Check in process was quicker for booked slots and they were letting 10 of us through to every 1 walk in. So though our queue was much longer it went far more quickly

My sister just walked out from hers. She had an appointment but had to queue with everyone else. She queued for an hour and gave up

AchillesLastStand · 16/12/2021 18:14

I hope not. I have an appointment on Saturday morning for a vaccine centre a 25 minute drive away. I don’t drive so my DH will have to drive me there and along with our 7 year old and wait in the car. We have no family nearby for childcare.

My DH had his there last weekend and got in on time but that was before Sunday’s announcement.

Lazypuppy · 16/12/2021 18:18

My appointment i was in, jabbed and out in about 30 seconds. No queue to get in, straight in to see nurse, asked questions, jabbed and then sent home

Tabbacus · 16/12/2021 18:20

I booked somewhere that wasn't doing walk ins because I didn't want to have to wait ages, maybe check which ones aren't and then try and book?

AllKnowingGerbil · 16/12/2021 18:23

Mine had separate queues and my booked appointment was on time.

TheWoollybacksWife · 16/12/2021 18:28

DH and I had our boosters this week at a centre that was doing both appointments and walk ins. There was one queue and nobody obvious to ask so we joined the end of the queue. We arrived about 15 minutes early and just before the first appointment time one of the centre staff came out and asked anyone with booked appointments to come in to the hub.

We were done and out exactly on time. The queue wasn't enormous (about 30 people) so it wouldn't have been an awful wait regardless.

Downtown36 · 16/12/2021 18:33

I’m in the South East and queued for 50minutes past my booked appointment time.

historyrocks · 16/12/2021 18:58

Everyone was merged together when we went. Queued for a good 45 mins past our appointment time.

Staggersaurus · 16/12/2021 19:05

Ours was super efficient today. We’d booked this morning for an afternoon appointment and was done and dusted in 15 mins. The walk ins were fitted in around the booked ones with no hassle. I was massively impressed and grateful to all who organised it.

Dh phoned our local pharmacy as he has an appointment next Tuesday and wanted to know if he could turn up as a walk in any sooner. They said he could turn up but be prepared for a long wait as they are prioritising booked appointments over walk ins. He has decided to wait for his booked appointment.
