Would you avoid a nail bar?

I’m due to get gels done tomorrow for Christmas- I’m not usually a nail person but I love a Christmassy manicure.

Struck me that a nail bar might not be a great place to go- face to face with the lady for 30 mins (in masks of course) and with lots of people coming and going. I’d feel stupid if I screwed up Christmas for the sake of my nails.

WWYD? I was boosted a week ago. I live in London.

If you weren't watching/reading news what would you do?

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 16/12/2021 15:26

Felt very safe at my one/ everyone in masks, screens between me and the technician - have to carry on living

SmallestInTheClass · 16/12/2021 15:27

Given you live in London where rates are really high, there's a reasonable chance you might be in at the same time as someone with it. Personally, I'd not risk it this side of Christmas. You're unlikely to be really ill, but being stuck at home isolating at Christmas could be pretty miserable. Maybe go the next week and have them nice for New Year instead?

Inastatus · 16/12/2021 15:28

I had mine done yesterday - they look great 😀

TulipsGarden · 16/12/2021 15:36

I wouldn't, this close to Christmas. Your booster will help but you don't have full immunity from that yet.

I suppose it depends if getting Covid over Christmas will cause major problems or just be a minor inconvenience. And btw, screens do nothing - the virus is airborne, it hangs in the air like smoke.

DOINGOURBIT · 16/12/2021 15:40

Are you not going into any other shop this side of Christmas? A Post Office, a supermarket, a queue for anything else?

Fear factor is really having an impact on mental health.

TooManyPlatesInMotion · 16/12/2021 15:46

I'm getting mine done. It is what it is.

ChristmasRobins · 16/12/2021 16:14

Thanks, all.

@DOINGOURBIT I don’t generally hang out in a supermarket face to face with the check-out girl for half an hour.

I wouldn’t, OP. It’s not about another PP “feeling” safe. It is, as you say, the longer period of time in close proximity with a fair few others. With a much more infective virus. Chris Witty said think about what you really want to prioritise over the next few weeks. I’d love some gels done, but no.

Kinko · 16/12/2021 20:59

I wouldn't go. Benefit doesn't outweigh the risk.

IGotHam · 16/12/2021 21:04

I wouldn't go personally. I cancelled my hair appointment because the l salon was too rammed with people and it's not worth the risk for me in the run up to Xmas.

Bunny2021 · 16/12/2021 21:16

I’m getting mine done on Monday. Every salon I know has screens between customers and screens between you and the technician.

Just make sure you’re going to a reputable place that has sterilised equipment/suitable protection in place.

EasterIssland · 16/12/2021 21:19

Id wear an ffp2 which gives more protection if worried about catching it.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 16/12/2021 21:19

I'm going on Saturday.

ImInStealthMode · 16/12/2021 21:22

Had my hair done today, nails on Saturday.

I'm tired of spending life treading on eggshells. If I get it I get it. I wouldn't know where from anywhere, could just as well be at work or in the lift to my apartment than at the nail salon.

Bubblty · 16/12/2021 21:32

Up to you. How would you feel about it if you caught covid from your trip and had to isolate over christmas? If you're OK with that, and some people will be, then that's up to you really.

DolphinFC · 16/12/2021 21:38

No you shouldn't go to a nail bar.

Nothing to do with covid though.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 16/12/2021 21:43

I'm getting mine done next week and will still get them done. We both wear masks and there's a screen

polkadotpixie · 16/12/2021 22:06

I'm going at the weekend, it never crossed my mind not too tbh

I'm also going ice skating and for a drink with friends. Whilst stuff is open, I'm going

I Literally couldn't care less about COVID, I'm triple jabbed and I've already had it so I'm just going about my life as normal unless it's taken away from me by Boris & Co again

Nicknacky · 16/12/2021 22:12

The phrase “I was boosted” is rapidly getting on my tits for some irrational reason.

But if you cancel then make sure you pay them.

For me its too close to Christmas to do anything non-essential (inc nails, hair, pub, shopa). Masks or not, they aren't 100% against covid or any other airborne disease, whether its staff or another client that has it.

Depends whether you risk infecting others in your household and jeopardising any plans in the next 2 weeks (assuming 3 days incubation and 10 days isolation)
