The same every Christmas?

If we are going to have a 'new variant of concern' every year around Christmas, how about we instigate a second 'Christmas' celebration on the 25th June, six months to the day after the real Christmas. We could still have all the food, music, decorations and get-togethers, and it would actually be warm!!

We’d get a summer variant

CJay81 · 16/12/2021 08:27

As more people would be meeting up outdoors, probably less chance of spreading it too. I'm sure Aldi did something called junemas and sold mince pies?

AgnesNaismith · 16/12/2021 08:31

I don’t think we would get a summer variant 🤷‍♀️ Surely the amount of travel in summer would have increased transmission if it were going to??

Maybe we should switch everything to summer months and hibernate through winter! School holidays, sports, school trips, work trips, parties outdoors.

Buzzinwithbez · 16/12/2021 08:33

Yeah. All the things that make our cold, damp, long winter bearable should be switched to summer

AutumnAlmanack · 16/12/2021 08:35

@Buzzinwithbez - I didn't mean to cancel 'real' Christmas - just to have a June celebration as a fall-back!

We have plans in June and I'm sure many others are too busy too. Summer has plenty going on for it.
Winter has pantomimes and Christmas parties and gatherings because it's such a shitty dark cold time of year.

People who put off seeing elderly relatives this year may not have them by the summer.

Buzzinwithbez · 16/12/2021 08:39

Plus anyone who puts off seeing elderly relatives this winter may not have them by summer

LactoseTheIntolerant · 16/12/2021 08:41

1 Christmas a year is quite enough thankyou!

@LactoseTheIntolerant

1 Christmas a year is quite enough thankyou!
Grin

As in "I wish it could be Christmas everyday"
Erm are you fucking insane?

AgnesNaismith · 16/12/2021 09:19

Yes fair enough, it’s tough having all these things we look forward to in the cold months cancelled though.
