App telling me to self-isolate

HolidayMiracle · 15/12/2021 22:25

Got pinged on my NHS COVID app tonight, telling me to self isolate for 9 days. I clicked around and it says 'if you are vaccinated you won't be told to self isolate' but I am! Had my booster back at the beginning of November. Booster and both original jabs show up on my NHS app/Covid pass etc. Is it a glitch?

Presumably the app doesn't know you are vaccinated, it just knows that you have been in contact with someone.

I was wondering about this. But why then in the blurb for the app does it say it won't ask you to isolate if you are vaccinated? How does it know anyone is vaccinated?

You might have an old version of the app as it's supposed to ask for your vaccine status. Maybe delete and reinstall it

SLH2003 · 15/12/2021 22:42

The app is anonymous and has only ever been advisory. Just ignore it if you want.

Mooscow · 15/12/2021 22:43

Perhaps your close contact has Omicron so you need to isolate.

dementedpixie · 15/12/2021 22:44

The app won't know its omicron

friedeggandsauce · 15/12/2021 22:46

Get rid of the app!! I don't know anyone who has it now!!

Suzi888 · 15/12/2021 22:48

You only need to isolate if you reside with a positive person (if you are fully vaccinated).
Only track and trace will advise you that you need to isolate (or not).
There are rogue apps that will advise you to isolate.
I live in Wales though so rules may be different where you are.

I second this.

Lol people still have the app?

HolidayMiracle · 15/12/2021 22:50

I know it isn't compulsory. I have the app because I want to be responsible and also would rather know that I've been exposed.

I have booked myself a PCR as a contact and will do daily LFTs for the next 9 days as well

No isolation for contact with omicron anymore if you are vaccinated, the rules changed again yesterday, just need to do daily lfts instead

Thanks for this, it was indeed an old version. I've updated now and it still shows I have to isolate but hopefully next time it will work correctly.

Have you uninstalled and reinstalled it to get the up to date version? It should ask about vaccines before telling you about isolating (or not)

dementedpixie · 15/12/2021 22:53

In some cases it doesn't ask about vaccine status unless you uninstall/reinstall first

HolidayMiracle · 15/12/2021 22:55

Ok I've done that now and it's lost the exposure notification because i guess it deleted the data. So it sort of feels like I cheated. But that's fine I will still do the tests/I don't need to isolate anyway. All up to date now anyway.

Although the 'exposure checks' are still listed in my phone settings so maybe once it syncs up it will alert me again. Will be interested to see if it asks about vaccine this time @dementedpixie

Very sensible, OP. I still have the app too, for this reason. I visit my elderly relatives a lot and, whilst I LFT regularly anyway, I feel having the app is an extra layer of cautiousness x
