Hearing loss with covid?

I've currently got a pretty mild case of covid at the moment.
I'm about 7 days in with just has a bit of a cough, the odd headache and feeling a bit tired.

The main problem I've got is that my hearing is really muffled in one ear and I keep getting really loud tinnitus in it. I've been treating it with olive oil drops and I've syringed it myself, but there's no improvement.

I read a few posts from earlier in the year of people with the same problem and I'm just wondering if their hearing came back and/or the tinnitus went away?

I'm getting a bit worried that it might be permanent.

My partner completely lost his hearing in one ear with Covid, it triggered some inner ear autoimmune response. He regained some if it but took months. Now has about 10% hearing In left ear, he has been told there is a chance it might come back (its coming up to a year now).

Apparently steroid injections if done promptly can regain it back so if I was you I would try and push for that to be considered. This was never suggested to us just something they told us in hindsight.

That's what I was worried about, I've got a horrible feeling that I might have hearing loss permanently now.

I've got a couple more days of isolation and then will try contacting the GP, although with everything going on at the moment I doubt I'll be able to get an appointment anyway.

Interesting.
I lost natural response to middle and higher frequencies in my right ear in between AZ jabs. Hearing aid brings it back to a degree.
Tinnitus is louder in that ear now.

GP treated it remotely like wax build up.
Two weeks later I insisted on being looked at.
Hmm, no wax there they said.

Audiology said there’s a condition called Sudden Hearing Loss ( sudden being over a couple of days ) which needs treating asap with steroids. It’s swelling on the aural/audio nerve they said.

Will A and E see you as a COVID patient?
It could just be a check for wax and if there’s none, prescription for a week of steroid tablets.
Good luck.

I'm on day 6 of COVID and have terrible tinnitus and some hearing loss amongst the other crap. He head feels so stuffy and like it might explode.

Yes this is happening alot. To be fair any virus can cause it but seems ti be high incidence in covid cases.
Steriods are needed promptly to try and save the hearing. Some people have seen improvement in 3 to 6 months but some people dont get improvement or only mild improvement.
@mreggsworth although im not certain i would say it is likely to be permanent in his case.

I've noticed I can't hear so clearly since having the two AZ jabs

After 14 months I have very limited smell and some ongoing hearing loss-everything sounds muffled.

Yes my friend completely lost hearing in one ear after covid. It is a recognised thing. She has been asked to join a research study on it.
