I have three theatre shows booked this month. How are these still being allowed to go ahead? They're all fully booked venues, no distancing. I think I'm too anxious to go but it was a real investment for the kids and the loss of the money is really hard to take. Im torn about this because if they're going ahead surely the powers that be consider this to be a risk that's potentially fine to take? Basically I'm confused by the messaging and rubbish at making a decision

Well you've all got the wrong end of the stick. Sorry for being unclear.

I meant the people judging others for cancelling, or the 'who books theatre tickets in a pandemic' comments.

I wish I could go. I'm really sad I'm not. If it wasn't bloody Christmas I would absolutely be there.

Isthatthebestyoucando · 15/12/2021 22:20

@DrHildegardeLanstrom

We are seeing the Cursed Child next Wednesday. That is ££££££ and we will go, but if it gets cancelled I will be relieved.
Nimax are brilliant about refunds. I've had the Cursed Child booking cancelled twice now. I booked so much with them at the end of last year, everything that could be rescheduled offered me a free upgrade to rebook or a refund if I chose to.
WheelieBinPrincess · 15/12/2021 22:21

@DontDoThatGeorge Blush

Sorry. It really wasn’t clear though.

Hope you get to see it at some point.

DontDoThatGeorge · 15/12/2021 22:22

@DrHildegardeLanstrom

"We've decided not to today and applied on the website for a change of ticket date."

What is the process please? Is there a cost and do they need proof of any reason etc?

We booked through ATG and there's a link.

We just googled it. I don't know if they actually will move tickets or not.

Isthatthebestyoucando · 15/12/2021 22:22

@Lacedwithgrace

Who's going to the theatre around Christmas in a pandemic? Unless you booked it 3 years ago it's quite a silly move
Lots of people have safely enjoyed pantos in the last few weeks.
EileenGC · 15/12/2021 22:22

@TheVampiresWife

It would have been so helpful if we'd followed most of Europe and many other countries around the world. Kept the mask mandate all along, HEPA filters, and vaccine passes

None of which would have stopped Omicron.

And there never will be a cure for covid, @Thewiseoneincognito. Improving vaccines and therapeutics, yes. But a cure? No.

We have omicron where I live. It Measures haven’t stopped the spread, but ‘safe’ activities are still as safe as they can be, because most infections are being prevented. Shows aren’t shutting down, because cast members aren’t giving Covid to each other on a regular basis.
Pootle40 · 15/12/2021 22:23

I'll be going to everything until I can't. If you weren't watching the news these thoughts wouldn't even enter your mind. Lockdown by media ! Mental

whiteroseredrose · 15/12/2021 22:23

We are supposed to be going to the Royal Exchange in Manchester on 23rd and Book of Mormon on 26th.

If the shows go ahead we will be there.

This is never ending and i can't stop my life forever.

Sadly not true. Half my staff are off with covid, causing chaos on my ward.

My kids have a teacher in ICU who may not make it.

My DP has a dead colleague last week.

There's a lot of covid about.

Skyechasemarshalontheway · 15/12/2021 22:27

We went to the Theatre last night. Needed covid passes to enter or ltf test.

Unfortunately for those going tonight to the show we saw its been cancelled as they have cast shortages due to covid.

Other shows have also been stopped for the rest of the week.

DoubleDeckerSwimmer · 15/12/2021 22:27

I went to the theatre last week but I now know that their is Omicron in our community so I don't think it would be responsible for me to go again.

Idontevenknow · 15/12/2021 22:27

@VinoBianca

I wouldn't ask for a refund, though it's a galling combined loss! I just want the decision to be taken out of my hands I guess, especially as it involves disappointing little ones. Omicron is very unfestive eh!
I understand what you mean, however people have to make their own risk assessments with what they feel comfortable with. If you don't want to go, fine, but let's not punish those who do want to go and carry on
Isthatthebestyoucando · 15/12/2021 22:28

You 'carry on regardless' people are so fucking self obsessed and insensitive.

You may have had a point six months in, but carry on people now are probably those who realise that this is going nowhere, we live with it because the alternative is to not have anything to look forward to.

FrownedUpon · 15/12/2021 22:29

There’s no way I would go to the theatre at the moment. It’s highly likely someone there will have omicron. Just not worth the risk with levels so high.

Tealightsandd · 15/12/2021 22:29

If (efficient) masks had been kept throughout, ventilation filters updated, people’s Covid status checked, and companies had developed solid hygiene plans… then it might have not been as bad.

This.

People like VampiresWife don't seem to understand mitigation. As in reducing the risks.

It really is such a shame it wasn't done in the UK. Christmas theatre/panto/shows are so lovely to go to.

Louiselady500 · 15/12/2021 22:30

We went to the London Palladium last night. We wore FFP3 masks which are safer than most masks. It was an absolutely fantastic show. Haven’t cried with laughter like that in a long time!! Not a single person without a mask and they checked every covid pass but of course it’s still a risk.

I've got tickets booked for two musicals between Christmas and NY for me and my teenage daughter. We both could do with some fun - it's been a gruelling couple of years. If the theatres are still open, I will go: for us, the risk of catching Covid would be worth it. (And TBH she has a much higher chance of catching Covid in school where at least half the kids are unvaccinated.)

I'm going there on the 21st. I can't wait.
DaisyNGO · 15/12/2021 22:34

@PurpleFlower1983

We’re seeing Cabaret on Saturday, just take all precautions to keep yourself safe.
Oh wow I really fancied that but couldn't justify the ticket price

I bet ER is going to be beautiful in that

donutqueen11 · 15/12/2021 22:46

We have a show booked between Xmas and new year. Both my teens are musical lovers and they can't wait. I would rather it be postponed but will go if it is still on. We saw six on Friday night and everyone in the theatre had masks on but I must admit I was worried. But like you I think kids are more likely to catch it at school.

Sweetmagnolia · 15/12/2021 23:07

I had Phantom tickets booked for Friday but decided not to go. I filled in an online exchange form and quickly got a credit voucher back to rebook at leisure. Well Done Her Majesty's Theatre.

HaaaaaveyoumetTed · 15/12/2021 23:09

I'm supposed to be at the theatre on Friday. I'd rather not go so close to Christmas (it was a surprise) AND there's covid amongst the cast - the last 2 shows were cancelled. I appreciate that those not +be can continue to work but it just seems such a risk. But DH will lost £160+ if we don't go.

DrHildegardeLanstrom · 15/12/2021 23:35

Just requested to exchange my tickets for next weds

Imdreamingofapeacefulxmas · 15/12/2021 23:44

Frazzled yes this is the Maddness.
Schools apparently live in a special bubble where covid doesn't infect people's on the same way.
I'm torn I don't know what to do.

TempsPerdu · 16/12/2021 00:10

Been to one Christmas show already; have tickets for three more between now and Christmas. Providing they can still go ahead we’ll be going to all of them. Can’t wait. Smile
