I have three theatre shows booked this month. How are these still being allowed to go ahead? They're all fully booked venues, no distancing. I think I'm too anxious to go but it was a real investment for the kids and the loss of the money is really hard to take. Im torn about this because if they're going ahead surely the powers that be consider this to be a risk that's potentially fine to take? Basically I'm confused by the messaging and rubbish at making a decision

I have a event planned for this weekend. I am not going, but I am not seeking a refund.

Businesses can't keep surviving refunds and rebookings. I have paid already, so whilst I don't want to loose out, I don't see it as a financial loss, just the loss of not going to the event.

This is highly, highly transmittable so it's not worth the risk IKO.

DaisyNGO · 15/12/2021 21:33
@DaisyNGO first one is Friday

@BlueShirtGirl I booked all of these way before Omicron and I felt fine going then

@Mangoandbroccoli I know, this has been on my mind too

I'll wear a mask no problem, but the kids won't (under 5s) and we have elderly grandparents coming for Christmas so it's just all a total clusterfuck with no good outcome either way!
Okay so I know you probably want to make alternative plans but in terms of asking for refunds, don't. You might well get one even for the Friday show.

If you don't hear from them first, then I'd say it's polite to let them know you aren't going, but hold on till midday on the day for evening shows maybe? Depends how far you are etc.

It sounds like you don't want to go...I mean, if you want to, do, but you sound like you don't and I would bet money the decision will be made for you.

turtledovelove · 15/12/2021 21:33

My DD is currently rehearsing for a panto that she will be in in the new year. My main concern is the whole thing will get cancelled and won't go ahead. It will be such a shame for the entire cast & crew who work so incredibly hard each week.

I'm due to see a show at a local theatre next week and will adhere to the rules of mask wearing etc but I still want to go regardless.

DaisyNGO · 15/12/2021 21:33

To be clear
Don't ask for refund because it will be offered when they cancel.

EileenGC · 15/12/2021 21:34

I work in the industry, and the biggest issue right now, in England, is shows being cancelled because the performers are getting Covid. That’s why the audience is only getting a couple hours’ notice.

Most of the smaller and average-sized productions don’t have an infection tracing protocol, they don’t have understudies who could jump in last minute, they don’t test the cast members. Three people get sick or test positive on an LFT and that’s it, you need to close the whole thing down.

Even the big West End shows are being cancelled, because everybody is ill, or a close contact. The issue with close contacts is that they’re not required by law to isolate, so they all come into work, and three days later start developing symptoms, despite negative LFTs. By which point, half the band is off with a headache, the MD has a cough, there are not enough choir members, and you also have front of house staff either isolating, or with a sick kid at home, so no one to man the doors. It’s absolutely bonkers.

If (efficient) masks had been kept throughout, ventilation filters updated, people’s Covid status checked, and companies had developed solid hygiene plans… then it might have not been as bad.

Ive got theatre tickets for monday, they were a birthday present in September from DH.
MIL has also booked us tickets fot her birthday early January then we are meant to be going to London for a show in Feb.
I was totally happy to attend these when they were booked.
Ive been to theatre in Manchester and London since October and am keen to support as I know they have struggled so much, paid for a few livestreams during lockdown. I'm worried now though, Im cv and have struggled with long covid.

VinoBianca · 15/12/2021 21:38

I wouldn't ask for a refund, though it's a galling combined loss! I just want the decision to be taken out of my hands I guess, especially as it involves disappointing little ones. Omicron is very unfestive eh!

Yes @OpalOwl I'm also a big supporter of the industry, I donated and bought tickets to online shows in lockdown too. Everybody loses out, it's awful. In your position I don't think I'd go :-(

We’re seeing Cabaret on Saturday, just take all precautions to keep yourself safe.

DrHildegardeLanstrom · 15/12/2021 21:43

We are seeing the Cursed Child next Wednesday. That is ££££££ and we will go, but if it gets cancelled I will be relieved.

PurpleFlower1983 · 15/12/2021 21:43

I can’t say I’m not worried though!

dementedma · 15/12/2021 21:48

We are due to see The Nutcracker on Friday in Edinburgh. Tickets were expensive. Not sure now what to do....

There's several exponential doublings between now and then. Cancellation gets more likely with every day that passes.
WheelieBinPrincess · 15/12/2021 21:52

The Cursed Child is what I’m due to see on Friday,

I bought those tickets in late 2019, it’s taken until now to even get near it so if it’s cancelled again I almost give up ever seeing the bloody thing.

2anddone · 15/12/2021 21:58

I am going to watch The Nutcracker at the London Colliseum on Tuesday. The theatre is showing as full apart from about 100 tickets. I won't cancel as dd and her friend are so excited....plus it cost £££ but if it gets postponed I will be relieved

Lacedwithgrace · 15/12/2021 22:00

Who's going to the theatre around Christmas in a pandemic? Unless you booked it 3 years ago it's quite a silly move

Treaclepie19 · 15/12/2021 22:07

Pantomime Sunday. Increasingly unsure what to do. It's not just my son I'd be letting down as we're going with a friend and her children.

WheelieBinPrincess · 15/12/2021 22:07

@Lacedwithgrace why three years ago Confused

It’s perfectly safe if done well. I don’t live in the UK right now and where I am we have high cases but I haven’t heard of a single show or music venue shutting down because of Covid. There are strict requirements for the audience and those of us who put on the performances are under stringent testing, tracing and hygiene protocols.

Entertainment is safe, for both the audience and the staff, but it needs to be done properly. In England it’s a free for all at the moment. Which is a shame, because earlier in the year most places managed to design a safe plan and it worked until they dropped it.

DontDoThatGeorge · 15/12/2021 22:13

I got tickets to Cursed Child for Christmas 2019. Up until today we were planning on going for the third attempt on Sunday. We've decided not to today and applied on the website for a change of ticket date.

I'm honestly not bothered about catching it. I'm way past that. I'm worried about buggering up Christmas for the kids and their dad and their dad's family and the single friend who's coming to us.

You 'carry on regardless' people are so fucking self obsessed and insensitive.

BHX3000 · 15/12/2021 22:15

You 'carry on regardless' people are so fucking self obsessed and insensitive.

Wow, projecting much?

I don’t have kids whose Christmas I could ‘bugger up’ nor am I seeing my 96 year old grandma on Boxing Day. So please tell me why would I be self obsessed for going to a show I’m perfectly, legally allowed to attend?

DrHildegardeLanstrom · 15/12/2021 22:16

"We've decided not to today and applied on the website for a change of ticket date."

What is the process please? Is there a cost and do they need proof of any reason etc?

TheVampiresWife · 15/12/2021 22:16

It would have been so helpful if we'd followed most of Europe and many other countries around the world. Kept the mask mandate all along, HEPA filters, and vaccine passes

None of which would have stopped Omicron.

And there never will be a cure for covid, @Thewiseoneincognito. Improving vaccines and therapeutics, yes. But a cure? No.

WheelieBinPrincess · 15/12/2021 22:17

@DontDoThatGeorge

How’d you work that one out then? Anyone who still wants to go ahead with long awaited plans is selfish?

For what it’s worth I don’t much care about your kids and their dad and their dad’s single friend Confused

How are people who DO decide to go buggering it up for you when you’ve decided NOT to go?
