Proof of negative LFT?

Surely it's not proof at all... It's obviously ridiculously easy to fake one, either the test itself or the reporting of it (not saying that would be right btw).

Given that those who aren't vaccinated, in the main, aren't especially concerned about the virus and either believe it's nonsense or massively overblown, aren't they exactly the type who would be much more likely to fake a LFT result rather than miss out on a big event?

I get severe needle phobia.... But in my experience people with medical phobias are the first to want to be vaccinated! Surely, their worst nightmare would be Covid, so not to be vaccinated against it would be totally irrational.... but then most phobias are.

They may want to be, but can’t be as the anxiety is too overwhelming. Have you not read some people stories on here and have some sympathy for them. Some people can not overcome their needle phobia. If you managed to be vaccinated with a needle phobia, then clearly you were able to cope better than someone who hasn’t managed this.

Ignore that last part. Sorry I read it as you have needle phobia.

Medical phobias have put people in a viscous circle. They want to be vaccinated because they’re scared of getting covid. But they’re fear of medical procedures/professionals/settings, stops them. They need help for their anxiety, but of course that involves medical things. What do they do, especially when the help for mental health/anxiety is not easy to access.

Yep, I know an anti-vaxxer who “does them” but waves the test strip around straight after they've put their sample on it and immediately submits it as a negative result Hmm. I won't be giving them any more tests to waste.

I totally get your point about faking LFTs but I think it's a bit naive to assume unvaccinated people are the possible culprits. There's probably vast swathes of vaccinated people who are happy to fake a negative LFT because they're morals are dubious.

I have a fortnightly consultant appointment where I have to wave a negative LFT at the receptionist and I'm pretty sure I've shown them old ones before. It doesn't matter because I always do them beforehand and they're always negative, but it really highlights how easy it is to fake in certain circumstances. Not sure where my morals would lie if I'd forgotten to do one beforehand but knew I had a few old negatives in my handbag.

(Disclaimer that I'm 99% sure I'd leave if I'd forgotten to take one, but obviously my healthcare could be at serious risk if I miss a consultant appointment so there's a chance my brain would make the wrong call.)

I’ve always said this, it’s very easy to fake so in my opinion not very reliable especially for those people who are reluctant to take one or don’t believe covid exists.

@Redcrayons

The only way to ensure people not faking it, is to have them done by a HCP. But that’s totally impractical.
Exactly.

@Warhertisuff

I think lots of these people have anxiety and needle/medical phobias or other concerns like that.

I get severe needle phobia.... But in my experience people with medical phobias are the first to want to be vaccinated! Surely, their worst nightmare would be Covid, so not to be vaccinated against it would be totally irrational.... but then most phobias are.

Medical phobia is a fear of medical settings/procedures. It is not a fear of illness. And like a pp said, trying to get help for such phobias is a vicious cycle.
