Would you be annoyed about this?

Furniture delivered this afternoon, for an upstairs room. It arrives, 2 chaps get out of the van and start carrying it into the house. I asked them to wear a mask, they discussed it for a moment (in a different language so no idea what was said - I don't know if they didn't have masks or just didn't want to wear one), and then one shrugged and said they were both vaccinated so they don't wear them. I asked again, they refused and said they would leave the furniture at the front door instead (when I had paid for delivery to the room of my choice).

I tried to keep well out of their way but they reversed the furniture into the room I'd gone into to keep out of their way, and one chap walked straight into me, then stood huffing and puffing on the landing for a good minute or two while he took pics of the furniture.

I'm not totally OTT about covid but with everything going on and the fact that they'd been in and out of houses all day, surely they should be wearing masks if someone requests?

I called the delivery company and they said they do give the drivers masks and ask them to wear them but they can't enforce it, but they have had a lot of complaints from people about the same issue. Ironically they send you a nice long email before delivery telling you how covid safe their deliveries are!!

I only included it because if it had been in English I'd have known if they were just being awkward or if they genuinely didn't have masks, in which case I'd have given them some!

I'd be mildly irritated for about 60secs then I'd get over myself, open the windows for an hour, and forget about it. 🤷🏻‍♀️

No, wouldn't bother me.

I'd certainly want anyone entering my house to keep distance and wear masks (talking into a mask all day, so I know it can be done). Moving forward, I guess the thing to do is to ask if anyone entering your house could wear a mask, obviously pointing out in return you'll do the same, air the house.

Ventilation is actually even more important than masks. I don't let anyone in unless I've opened up all the windows and the balcony doors. I do also ask them to wear masks and would be annoyed if they refused, but it can be difficult to wear them while carrying heavy objects. The most important thing is ventilation and distance, and you wearing a decent mask yourself.

They should have put a mask on when asked.

I was wearing one! And the email they send you tells you to open all the doors and windows, they ask you on the phone before they arrive if anyone is isolating, and it goes on about how safety is so important yada yada. Anyone else that's delivered inside the house, or we've had tiling and plumbing done recently, has just arrived wearing one.

Did u bleach the furniture, hand rails, air and door knobs OP?

Not yet @cousingreg, I'm busy bleaching myself first. Maybe I'll just seal off the room for a few weeks and get some hazmat suits before I go in there again.

Regardless of the right or wrong of mask wearing, if you've asked them politely to wear a mask, and they have one, then they should be polite enough to honour your request. It's like if you ask people to take their shoes off before entering your home, you don't expect them to say No, and then come in anyway. Just manners - basic courtesy.

exactly @inthemiddlemum - I wasn't that bothered that they pitched up without them, I can totally see they they are a PITA if you have to take them on and off all day for deliveries. It was the shrug and the refusal when I'd asked if they would mind wearing one that really pissed me off!

I would have handed them masks. If they balked, I would have called the company. I would not have signed for the delivery until it was completed properly.

Wouldn’t bother me but as it bothered you then I think you could have just asked for them to leave It at the door

I would have handed them masks. If they balked, I would have called the company. I would not have signed for the delivery until it was completed properly.

But they would have just left it on the doorstep presumably.

Of course they should have worn their masks if you asked them. Their company needs to tell them that if a customer requests it and they refuse and they get a complaint then it's a disciplinary affair.

We have had to have a long line of people in our home since Covid because of some water damage and the extensive repairs required. Otherwise we would simply keep completely shielded. Not a single one has balked at the mask. They may not have been happy, but they have all done it. It may help that we have a sign on our front door reminding people that masks are required because of our situation.
