Coronavirus and school attendance

Any one else stuck between a rock and a hard place with the school... dd 9 has a slight cough, we’ve taken 3 lft and all have been negative since Friday. So she’s off school at the moment as she still had a cough, got a call earlier stating we need to do a pcr, which is fine except I know I’ll be getting a shitty letter complaining about her attendance despite it being the protocol to do this. How can schools be allowed to send you attendance notices when the illness is COVID related. Problem is we don’t have access to a car this week as DP is away for work so will have to be a postal one which takes much longer. I did let them know this. I just feel like it’s damned if we do and damned if we don’t 😩

Why didn't you order the pcr on Friday? You'd have received, done, and returned it by now if you had. She was always gong to have to do one, you didn't need to wait for school to tell you.

How much time has she had off already this term if she's on attendance notice? Covid absence doesn't count toward it as it's recorded differently. I'm out schools at least.

Why didn’t you order a postal PCR when symptoms started?

Our school aren’t counting covid related absences at the moment though.

Our DS had a written warning about his attendance in September for the previous year. He hadn't been off this school year until he tested positive for covid (PCR confirmed.) He had his 10 days off which finished last week but he's still ill, sleeping for about 16 hours per day. I'm keeping him off as his school finishes on Friday, I'm hoping we don't get another letter about his attendance as its due to Covid.

She only had cold symptoms on Friday but we did the lateral just in case and it was negative she only developed the cough on Sunday morning, last time she had a cold and she had the same and only had the cough for 2 days, that was during the half term. She had 2 days off in October due to a ear infection and they sent a letter saying attendance was low when they had only been at school for 5 weeks so of course it would be lower. And they are not making special arrangements for covid and some of dd friends in the other class had covid and still got the letters.
