Should Christmas school shows still be going ahead?

It’s not so much of a AIBU but just a general thought started by the imminent update from Boris tonight.

I have personally got my daughter’s school show coming up in a couple of days, but given the rising cases with this new strain and also people potentially having to isolate over Christmas which many people have been looking forward to after this last year…

Should school shows still be going ahead?

If they are this week I cannot see why not, the kids have practiced for weeks. But those should be double vaccinated and masked no exemptions

LethargicActress · 12/12/2021 17:57

Yes, they should. It’s too close to the end of term to tell kids that on top of everything else they’ve missed out on, now the shows they have been preparing for are cancelled. If individual families have a reason to be particularly cautious, they can avoid it.

DeirdreRashid · 12/12/2021 17:58

Yes 🙄

tiredanddangerous · 12/12/2021 18:01

My dcs school are doing theirs but parents aren't allowed to attend.

justamumseekingadvice · 12/12/2021 18:02

Yes I have heard of that in the local schools too;

Okay, so should they go ahead and be online only? Or is it still okay for families to attend IP?

My DD's has been cancelled. Not just due to covid, but also due to the lack of staff isolating from covid and also other various illnesses which are going around the school. I don't remember it being this bad this time last year to be honest. I think the bubbles were better, but perhaps daily testing rather than isolation.

babybythesea · 12/12/2021 18:04

My class is doing an outside performance. We have a field with a shelter (roof, no walls). The children are using that as their stage but parents will get wet if it rains.

NewbieAlert · 12/12/2021 18:05

Ours is going ahead and I can’t wait.
Haven’t stepped foot inside the school since my child started reception.
They are excited beyond belief. If they cancel it my child will be devastated. That’s not an exaggeration.

emeraldcity2000 · 12/12/2021 18:06

Ours have all been cancelled and send out by video instead. A shame but cases are high and the kids took it well. If not cancelled all should test, wear a mask and ideally be vaccinated.

loveablequalities · 12/12/2021 18:08

Our school is videoing it. Local case numbers are really high. It's sad but having had covid I wouldn't wish it on anyone so fair enough.

Cascascascas · 12/12/2021 18:08

@justamumseekingadvice

No
Tough but no

ParkheadParadise · 12/12/2021 18:09

Yes

RhinestoneCowgirl · 12/12/2021 18:10

My daughter's first Christmas show at secondary school was last week. They cancelled public performance about a week before and performed to an audience of teachers, we were pretty gutted. They filmed it but we're only allowed to watch it of everybody sends back a consent slip, which of course hasn't happened yet.

Saladcreamormayo · 12/12/2021 18:15

our school is videoing it for DVD (if all parents agree, data protection and all that) I hope all do agree and we get to see their performance as its been sooo long. I know some schools that are still allowing parents in though.

Sunflowersinthewind · 12/12/2021 18:16

Our school is requesting negative lfts and masks. Makes sense.

Whitefire · 12/12/2021 18:18

Ours was cancelled a couple of weeks ago, plan at the moment is carols around the Christmas tree. Older one at senior school has had an awards evening cancelled due to staff illness.

namechangetheworld · 12/12/2021 18:22

DD's in on Tuesday and I'm not particularly looking forward to being crammed into the tiny hall with all of the other families. If we don't go DD would be gutted, but deep down I wish they would cancel and record it like they did year. That way the children still get to perform, and the adults still get to watch, without the added risk.

namechangetheworld · 12/12/2021 18:23
  • last year!
bigvig · 12/12/2021 18:26

Yes they should go ahead. If you're worried about catching something don't go.

RoastedParnsip · 12/12/2021 18:27

My DC school cancelled their play weeks ago. Angry Utterly ridiculous if you ask me... can go to a football match with thousands of people but I can't go sit in a hall with 50 odd other people. 🤦🏻‍♀️

millymolls · 12/12/2021 18:28

Without a shadow of a doubt, YES

madroid · 12/12/2021 18:28

No they should do it outside and socially distanced.

Not much of a Christmas gift to the children to give their family covid over the break.

Legoninjago1 · 12/12/2021 18:30

Yes. Wear a mask. Stay away if you're unvaccinated.

FutureHope · 12/12/2021 18:30

Yes. 100%.

GabriellaMontez · 12/12/2021 18:31

Of course. Cinema's open with hundreds of people.
