Music gigs in London

COVID cases are high in London and I have read that a lot of Christmas parties have been cancelled as people don’t want to risk catching covid or having to isolate over the holidays.

My son has a gig ticket for next week but still needs to book his travel ticket.

I know there are MNers with connections to entertainment so please can anyone share knowledge if all gigs are currently going ahead or likely to be postponed.

All going ahead at the moment!

Comefromaway · 12/12/2021 16:55

Theatre is going ahead but some shows are starting to be cancelled if too many cast/staff are off sick. They have understudies but only so many.

Ds2 is hoping his gig in Brixton is on Thursday night.

FrogFairy · 12/12/2021 17:41

Thank you all for your replies. Fingers crossed it goes ahead as planned, fingers and toes crossed he doesn’t bring covid back to the family (two of us immunosuppressed)

Yep attended a few gigs lately. It was great.

TheVampiresWife · 12/12/2021 18:16

I'd wait to see what Johnson is going to say this evening before booking travel - we're back at level 4 which means SD, which means gigs won't be able to go ahead.

the80sweregreat · 12/12/2021 19:46

My son has trains booked up to get to Brixton
He'll lose his money I guess.
It's a first world problem I know this , but it's hard on the young when they can't do normal things or enjoy themselves.
I do feel for them all. I used to go out and didn't give it a thought at his age :(
Bloody virus

Puppylucky · 12/12/2021 20:39

@TheVampiresWife Sorry that's not right. The alert level is at 4 but no additional restrictions have been announced - certainly no SD orders. Just more encouragement to get a booster. So gigs still on 👍

FrogFairy · 12/12/2021 20:55

Ooh that is good news. DS had pretty much accepted it would be cancelled.

Genuinely glad to have been proved wrong!

Husband works in live music at such shows and at the moment all is still going ahead.

WheelieBinPrincess · 13/12/2021 17:35

Ooh I hope so, I’m seeing the Libertines on Sunday, I’ll be gutted if that’s cancelled.

FrogFairy · 14/12/2021 11:41

Well the gig DS was going to has been postponed.

I am sad for him as his gigs are his main pleasure in life, but selfishly also a bit relieved as me and mum are both immunosuppressed so I was worried about him bringing covid home.

Fingers crossed for you all that your gigs go ahead as planned.

Gigs up north still seem to be carrying on. We've got a gig to go to from tonight, every night this week including Sunday.

Dd's work tonight and tomorrow has been cancelled due to covid cases. It's sad because most are on zero hours contracts.

I am sorry for your daughter losing work, think it is looking to be a grim and skint Christmas for those like your daughter.

She’s managed to pick up a shift at another nearby venues. But several venues have closed today.
