PCR 5 weeks after Covid

Wondering if anyone has come across this yet?

Me and DC tested +ve the week after half term. DH avoided it, but tested +ve this weekend. I presume not omicron, as me and DC got track/trace message saying we don’t have to isolate but to take a pcr test, which we did this morning.

Me and DC don’t have symptoms and have lateral flowed ~ve.

What confuses me is what happens if any of us test +ve on the pcr test result we’ll probably get overnight. Can they be sure it’s a new infection and not traces of last months? I thought you were exempt from pcr’s for 3 months after infection, but the pcr booking system now asks if you’ve tested +ve in past 3 months and flags you may have a different variant now - so does that mean they’re specifically checking these pcr’s for recent infections for omicron? - or could it be that they’re just being ultra cautious and we may end up needing to isolate as if +ve even though it’s the remnants of a previous infection rather than current omicron?

Wish I knew the answer so no help at all. Watching with interest I also had it 5 weeks ago, will have to do a PCR on Friday and my holiday's resting on it...
