PCR tests taking longer with Omicron?

Just wondering if anyone else has noticed that PCR test results are now taking longer to come through? Maybe because they're testing for S gene dropout, or maybe because there's an increase in number of tests being done? We're on 28hrs since drive through test & have never had to wait more than 24hrs previously. Could just be normal variation I suppose.

My sister had her test at 3 o'clock yesterday afternoon and had her results by 8 o'clock this morning. We are in South Wales so maybe it's different for different areas?

I think they are generally taking longer to come back because more testing is happening than ever before.
You’ll get a positive notification before getting an indication of having omicron I would have thought

I had my PCR test 1.30pm Thursday, result 10.45am Friday (positive) H and son had PCR yesterday at 12pm, no results yet. Maybe it a weekend thing?

Tested in at a London walk through at 3pm yesterday. No results yet. It's only 24 hours but the only other time I've taken a PCR - Aug 2020 - I got the results in 22 hours.

I imagine as London cases are now 30% omicron and cases are up there is a strain on lab capacity. The person I gave my test to on completion said results in '1 to 3 days'!!!

Last time - summer - was 5 days. Hoping that today’s test will be quicker as am hoping to know in time for work on Monday (teacher).

Hopefully my H and son’s will be back soon - also London

Test results are taking longer to come back because there are more people testing. Omicron suspect result come back in the same time as others.

Ok we received our 2 results back at 29hrs. Outer London.
