PCR or not?

Hi there,

My year 3 child has put herself to bed and says she doesn’t feel well. She says she’s tired and feels a bit sick, but not sick enough to actually be sick. This is just in the last couple of hours.

LFT is negative. In retrospect I shouldn’t perhaps have done this as she is complaining of feeling unwell, so I think the result can’t be relied upon?

Feeling a bit sick and feeling tired are not classic symptoms of COVID. Should I take her for a PCR anyway, on the basis it can present differently in children?

She has additional needs, if it’s relevant. I mention this as it would be distressing for her to have a PCR test, but if needs must then we’ll just have to.

Grateful for advice, thank you!

Why would a PCR be any more distressing than a LFT?

Throat as well as nose. At least I think it is for kids? She’s now been sick poor love.

And also, sorry, having to leave the house makes it more difficult.

No, kids are only required to swab their nose with a PCR.

If you really want to do a PCR then do a PCR.

You can get a home PCR test, it’ll just take a bit longer to get the results. However, if she is being sick then it would be best for her to do it at homeZ

You could order a postal PCR to reduce that part of the stress.

vinoandbrie · 11/12/2021 18:40

Thank you, I’ll do that - I didn’t know I could order one to the house.

There is a sickness bug doing the rounds at dd school. Could it just be that?
