Confused about booster

I'm a normal person, late 40s. I thought I was eligible for a booster (3rd jab) and the NHS website agreed and let me book it for Dec 20th.

But the confirmation says the following (it's the last line that has me baffled):

"What to bring with you. You will need to bring:

  • your booking reference number
  • a face covering, unless you cannot wear one for a health or disability reason
  • your referral letter if you have booked a 3rd dose for people with a severely weakened immune system
  • proof of employment if you’re an eligible health or social care worker
If you have a booked a 3rd dose you will not be able to get vaccinated without your referral letter."

Is this right - do I need a referral to get a booster? Why does it say this?

You're not having a 3rd dose. You're having a booster. A third dose is for certain medical conditions. So this doesn't apply to you.

No, you aren’t having a 3rd dose you’re having a booster.
The 3rd dose is for people with certain health problems, , and they get a letter from their consultant, they then go on to have a booster after their 3rd.

In your quote is also says:

your referral letter if you have booked a 3rd dose for people with a severely weakened immune system*

This doesn't apply to you

The reason is that the third dose of Moderna is a full dose but the booster is a half dose so they need to know. In theory it should also be correctly recorded on the system but that's still not possible.
