I was turned away from my booster and can't rebook on the main system.
I will persist, although mine woll now be well into january. How many people will just think screw it?
Why hasnt this been picked up by the bbc?

@StealthPolarBear

Im in the North east! Booking was fine, getting there fine, in the chair with my arm out and was told i shouldnt have been given an appointment
Shock that's awful. I can't believe people are saying 'it takes time' etc when you meet the published criteria and the system let you book.
StealthPolarBear · 10/12/2021 22:54

People like me who dont fancy calling 119 to be told i cant rebook as ive already had it!

This was happening over a month ago, and the NHS told vaccine centres not to turn away anyone who had managed to book a few days ‘early’. I can’t believe it’s still happening.

That's very interesting! Wonder why not more media coverage

I have mine booked in for tomorrow after getting a text from GP - I’m under 40, it looked like they were doing a weekend clinic but I’m half expecting to be turned away!

StealthPolarBear · 10/12/2021 23:11

Good luck, lwt us know

I'm over 50 and still not able to get my booster. Have to wait for a letter invite from GP in my area.

StealthPolarBear · 10/12/2021 23:16

Where on earht are you? What happens if you try ti book through the national system?

My mum is 78 and turned up a few days before the 6 months for her booster - she'd been in hospital when my dad had his 2nd, so her 2nd was about a week later when she came out. She was able to book an appointment slot with my dad (they have to take a taxi as my dad is partially sighted and can no longer drive, so understandably don't want to pay 2 taxis). She initially got told at the vaccination centre that she'd have to come back a few days later, but she got upset and they relented and gave her the jab.

They live in the same town as my sister, down south.

TheHumanFund · 10/12/2021 23:17

I'm in my 40s and had my booster today at a walk in clinic. Second jab was end of July and I had no problem getting it today along with a free flu jab.

StealthPolarBear · 10/12/2021 23:19

Mine was mid july! I suspect if id gone today id have got it as the gap would have been changed to three months.

Yes - where I am there are plenty of walk-in clinics. It really does seem to be a 'postcode lottery'.
Kyliealwayshadthebestdisco · 10/12/2021 23:20

They’ve definitely reduced the interval to 3 months not 6 months but I think some of the electronic systems are not caught up yet. It’s a very recent change but agree with a more competent government in charge this would not be happening.

AntiHop · 10/12/2021 23:22

Speak to your gp- they may be able to give you a link to book

StealthPolarBear · 10/12/2021 23:23

I'm actually less bothered about being turned away - annoying - but more worried that i, and presumably others, cant rebook.

StealthPolarBear · 10/12/2021 23:24

Thanks anti. That in itaelf isnt easy, unless you think the receptionist will be ableto field messages.

It's complicated. We moved from England to the Highlands in October. The Scottish booking system didn't recognise us because we had our first and second jabs in England. After umpteen phone calls we're now in the system but still can't book it because there are different arrangements for the Highlands. The helpline for the Highlands is permanently routed to voicemail which they don't reply to. GP can't help. I'm close to giving up.
StealthPolarBear · 10/12/2021 23:25

Ah :(
On the plus side i bet you live in a lovely area?

'computer says no' is a ridiculous reason to turn people away when they are sat in front of you. Why cant people just show their nhs covid cert with dates and also proof of age to get it? Wasting everyone's time.

Eccle80 · 10/12/2021 23:27

There do seem to be issues in some places with refusing to vaccinate over 40s under 6 months. Our local healthcare organisation who run the vaccine centres are still posting today that you must be over 6 months from 2nd dose to be vaccinated, even though the online system has allowed under 6 months to book appointments for several days. Luckily I booked mine at a pharmacy so had it successfully today

ArblemarchTFruitbat · 10/12/2021 23:29

Corrag I had a vague notion Sturgeon was more competent than Bozo in matters Covid, but not sounding like it from your experience.

Flyingsunflower · 10/12/2021 23:37

I had my booster from my Gp and I am under 40.Dh was turned away and he is over 40.We go to different practices.

Corrag · 10/12/2021 23:39

@StealthPolarBear Yep, in the middle of nowhere overlooking a sea loch. Nearest neighbour outwith shouting distance so if I'm going to be unboosted anywhere this is the place to do it.

@ArblemarchTFruitbat I'm not sure how well it's working in the rest of Scotland but it's certainly not well organised in the Highlands. Can't even go back to England to get it as I'm no longer registered with a GP there.

Cookerhood · 11/12/2021 08:52

@Corrag you don't have to be registered with a GP in England to have it. Just take your NHS number with you.

Exhausteddog · 11/12/2021 08:55

I'm 44. I had my last vaccine on 2nd July and I booked online this week for NYE. I don't think it asked the date of your last vaccine on the online form.
