Did the LFT wrong and got a strong positive

It was a nose one and I did it on my tonsils as well as my nose. Yes I'm an idiot. Anyway it came up as a very strong positive, a very dark line. I then did another one but just in my nose and got a very faint positive, probably wouldn't have noticed it if I wasn't looking! A proper squinted. Then I did yet another one and got a negative result.

I have booked a PCR but am I mad to think maybe it was a false positive?

Yep you are mad as it doesn’t sound like a false positive.

brogued · 10/12/2021 11:53

Yes you're probably right. Why do they insist you only do it up your nose for those ones then I wonder?

You have two positives.
I’d say you have covid.

Hopefully it’ll be a mild course. Flowers

False positives are really unlikely.

False negatives are quite common.

ThePoisonousMushroom · 10/12/2021 11:57

But you had a positive both times? So why would they both be false?

brogued · 10/12/2021 11:59

Sorry probably in a bit of denial. I feel fine. Sad

You have two positives. Swabbing your tonsils as well makes the tests more effective not less, which is likely why you have a stronger positive on that sample. I think they changed it to make them more appealing. I hope you stay well.

Wootothewho · 10/12/2021 12:53

Hopefully it’s a mild dose, feel for you as it’s a shock when you get a positive.

FreeBritnee · 10/12/2021 12:54

Sounds like two positives to me.

Zippy1510 · 10/12/2021 13:01

It’s definitely going to be positive. There’s been a few Twitter threads now showing tonsil swabbing gives a stronger result.

CovidMakesThingsHarder · 10/12/2021 13:06

Sounds positive sorry, at least you’ll be out in time for Christmas with today counting as you first day.

Oh okay, that's funny though as I find the nose bit worse!

Yes I'm hoping I don't feel too ill, and good that I'll be out for Christmas, if DH is going to get it he better get it quick 😂😩

I'm going to miss my ds' nativity Sad

4 positives on lateral flow here, out of different packets. 2 inconclusive pcrs and 1 neg.

I'm going on the chance of false positives being very rare that the pcrs just couldn't pick it up properly for some reason. That I do in fact have covid.

brogued · 11/12/2021 22:07

Just an update to say of course the pcr came back positive! Still don't feel unwell...so far...

I used the nose only one on both nose and tonsils. Didn't make the shitest bit of difference. Mine was still negative.
