Anyone been on a night out and NOT caught covid?

Recently I mean. DS is ECV and has stupidly decided to go on a big night out tomorrow. I can't sleep now for worrying. He's only had 2 jabs and has decided that he is done with it all and is not having any booster or third dose. He's young and daft and while he feels invincible I can't sleep for worrying. Anyone been clubbing and not caught it? It feels like the perfect covid soup. Sad

I think you should strongly discourage it but at the end of the day you can't stop him. If he's old enough to go clubbing he's presumably an adult. Obviously not every single person who has been clubbing recently has come back with Covid. Some will, some won't. It's a gamble.

Sorry not sure what ECV means.

Does he live with you? If so then you could say you're not having him in the house if he's going to go to night clubs. Depends how much you want to clamp down on it. But if he wants to go regardless then you can't really control him at this age.

UnicornMug · 10/12/2021 03:45

Sorry ECV means Extremely Clinically Vulnerable due to the medication he takes. We aren't talking at the moment because he's so bloody stubborn. He said he's going to stay with his Dad for at least a week afterwards to stop the risk of him bringing anything home. I don't care about that. I care about the risk to his own health. Sad

I have, and have been ok

BourbonScreams · 10/12/2021 03:57

I went clubbing in October, so not super recently, but I didn't catch covid. I did get some kind of nasty cold / flu as did DP but I had a negative PCR so I don't think that's what it was. Sorry you have this to worry about OP.

Lovelymincepies · 10/12/2021 04:33

Yep, Steps concert. None of us caught COVID.

SivvyPlath · 10/12/2021 04:53

I went clubbing in Birmingham at the end of November. Was in a packed club for hours. We were all totally fine.

Gladioli23 · 10/12/2021 05:04

I reckon the positive point about clubbing is that the likelihood of someone wanting to go if they feel under the weather has got to be fairly low.

I caught some nasty cold at the last big event I went to, but none of my group caught COVID, even off someone who sat with us and then tested positive late the day when they got a temperature. Everyone was double vaccinated though.

HelloDaisy · 10/12/2021 05:20

I know some teenagers who caught Covid after a night clubbing, however it was when the clubs first opened after being shut for so long.

All the young people we know have been clubbing a lot and none have caught it…

Ds is at university and they all go clubbing a few times a week and none have caught it so far.

Michellebops · 10/12/2021 05:27

I have been out twice recently and been fine.
Not every single person has Covid all the time and the risk won't be any greater than going to a football match or probably even a shopping centre.
I still wore my mask and constantly used sanitiser and took extreme care

BritWifeInUSA · 10/12/2021 05:33

If he’s ECV does he go clubbing during flu season in any other year? Surely he’s always at risk as there are viruses everywhere, all the time. If he waits until COVID no longer exists before he goes clubbing, he will never go clubbing again. What does he do to protect himself against other viruses? What did he do last year when no one was vaxxed?

VirusgonnaVirus · 10/12/2021 05:36

He is going to catch covid at some point, wouldn't you rather he caught it having fun?

ISpyCobraKai · 10/12/2021 05:44

Whether you agree with him or not, It's really not worth falling out over, he's obviously old enough to make his own decisions and this is what he's decided.
I'm also CEV and though I won't be going clubbing, I'm considering going to the theatre where it'll be full, shoulder to shoulder and I'll be very upset if my decision isn't supported.

Me. 🙋

hamstersarse · 10/12/2021 06:01

He’s had 2 jabs? Is this somehow being viewed as the same as unvaccinated now?!?

I don’t think nightclubs are especially bad, most of that age group have had it. My uni Ds says he doesn’t know anyone who’s had it for ages now. I couldn’t say that this time last year when they all had it!

He is a supposed to be triple jabbed to count as his full first dose so he's effectively in vaccinated yes.

Good point though about all the young ones having already had it

DS16 is CEV, has had two jabs, and had been out and recently to a big wedding. All fine.

Caught Covid on March 2020, hospital and us were petrified, other than being fluey ill for a free days absolutely fine. US adults breathing far worse affected than his, and his lungs are one of the areas of concern.

So, even if he does batch Covid still chances are more he's double jabbed he'll be ok.

If his lungs/breathing are compromised in any way a get a pulse oximeter. Mine was a tenner from Amazon and was hugely reassuring. Often times we felt we couldn't breathe our SATs were ok and thus we could relax and breathing would improve.

Also, unless you lock them up in a box they are going out to school/work/uni etc daily too. I don't know where you live but where I am that's much more likely as a transmitter of Covid than a one-off night out, esp now masks are back in play again

tangyandsalty · 10/12/2021 06:18

Not me (too old) but both my dc are in their 20's. They've both been out regularly, one mainly for drinks/meals but the other one goes to clubs and neither have caught it yet, I have to say I'm amazed they haven't!

On the other hand DH caught it just from a small social event where he sat in one place all night and only spoke to a handful of people, so I'm not sure there's any rhyme or reason to it.

trappedsincesundaymorn · 10/12/2021 06:27

I've been to a 3 day indoor music festival and a sold out indoor gig. Have not had a positive LFT or any symptoms at all. Both events within the 1st 2 weeks of November.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 10/12/2021 06:33

Yes, I've been out plenty of times and not caught Covid. I was at a gig 2 weeks ago.

I had Covid in August, I caught it at work!

Mindymomo · 10/12/2021 06:33

My 25 year old son has been going out every week. He says they are just going to a pub, but he’s not home till 4 am so ends up in a nightclub. He’s been to London on 3 separate weekends since September. He says is careful, but I know he cuddles friends. He works with around 25 people in engineering, most have had it, but my son hasn’t caught it yet. He’s had to isolate 3 times for being a close contact. He is asthmatic and had his 2 jabs. I feel your anxiety.

secretllama · 10/12/2021 06:33

I went to another city for the weekend with friends for a proper girls weekend... out in so many different bars and dance floors. None of us got it. (I mean there's always the chance we could have been asymptomatic and not known we'd got it)

MelonTits · 10/12/2021 06:35

I went to two gigs and a long pub session, all in the same week, after working in a busy and poorly ventilated office the week beforehand for COP26. No one caught anything.

CheesyChipsOnWembleyWay · 10/12/2021 06:36

Been to around 15 gigs and a fair few pubs since October. Not caught anything.

JufusMum · 10/12/2021 06:36

Not clubbing but I’ve been to six gigs in the last eight days (close up, sweaty and one at Wembley). So far I’m fine. Triple jabbed and work for the NHS.

LegoPandemic · 10/12/2021 06:37

I would be concerned that he’s not having his third primary dose if applicable/ booster if not.
I think this has gone on so long, young people do need their lives back. As long as he agrees to jabs I would support him getting out to live his life.
