9 YO Positive - Experiences?

PinkSundae · 09/12/2021 23:18

Just looking for reassurance really. Anyone else have a child around 9yo test positive and how bad did they get it?

Yesterday they were neg and today two absolute straight off the bat positives so we're all off for a PCR tomorrow and I'm checking them constantly out of paranoia. Likely I'll get it too as been in close contact all week but I'm double jabbed even if it was over 6 months ago I got my last.

They currently have sore tum, diarrhea and sore throat with a little cough. Sleeping peacefully just now so 🤞

Appreciate any replies it's been a bad day even before this. Flowers

More than likely that's as bad as it will get. A few days of it and recovery seems to be usual. Always a few who get a few weeks of it. They may go on to get a 'cold' but hopefully nothing major. The stomach issues are classic symptoms with kids. Take care of yourself too x

My 10yo had one day a bit under the weather and 9 days of feeling very very bored. None of the rest of us get it - but we were fairly careful with light social distancing, lots of ventilation (I wore a coat indoors for a fortnight), cuddles were not face to face (which caused some hilarity), and we wore masks when watching telly etc. Pre omicron tho.

When my family had it, I was quite unwell husband didn't catch it, 3 children tested positive (13,111,9) 13 yr old had a headache for a couple of days both other children felt totally fine the whole time.

QueenOfDuisburg · 09/12/2021 23:37

My 9 year old had it last week and was absolutely fine. No symptoms whatsoever.

There have been a couple more in her class who also had minimal symptoms and if they did, they felt better within a day or two.

PinkSundae · 09/12/2021 23:37

Thank you! We know lots who've had it and been fine so I'm not sure why I'm so worried. Reassured to hear your experiences though, have a 6yo and self employed DH who I'm praying avoid it. Been cleaning like a demon this evening and have a rough plan to keep kids apart but not sure we'll do social distancing justice... I'll do my best but don't want them being scared. It's hard isn't it.

Hope they are okay. My DC had 2 days of being really acutely unwell. I’ve nursed covid patients & wasn’t concerned at any point. Then 5 days of being really under the weather.

PinkSundae · 09/12/2021 23:41

Also, I was planning on keeping 6yo off school now until they break next week, just not to spread it if they are incubating anything. Is that overkill? If the person had done that who 9yo likely got it from we wouldn't have it so that's clouding my judgement... Although no hard feelings with it, I think it's so hard to make a judgement!!

They're more tired and have this little dry cough, can hear it every now and then but chest feels clear. Been on toilet a lot today and yesterday. Really hope we haven't passed it on, will have to let friends parents know tomorrow, two are currently off school with sore throats and neg tests.

My 9 year old had a temperature for 3/4 days, no energy and then cold symptoms. Within 4 days was over the worse and bouncing off the walls bored for the rest of her isolation. All she has been left with is a bit of a cough.

ShepherdMoons · 10/12/2021 09:22

both mine of a similar age and really just a little off colour, a bit of a temperature but really nothing awful compared to most bugs.

StringersBell · 10/12/2021 12:03

My 9yo currently has it, few days of headache/slight cough, but otherwise fine. Just bored! She caught it off us rather than other way round

lollipopsandrainbows · 10/12/2021 12:05

My 9yo was incredibly poorly. Started with the vomiting when then turned into a terrible cold. She was wiped out for 3 days but after that was like nothing had ever happened! We're 3 weeks post Covid now and she has a lingering cough, but other than that all fine.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 10/12/2021 12:07

My 8yo had a headache for a few hours and was sick once.
10yo had no symptoms.

It was a loooonnnggg 11 days at home with them.

Niffler92 · 10/12/2021 12:11

My dd got a postive test after 2 days of sore throat and upset stomach. Didn’t test positive on lft until day 3, kept testing as knew she’d been a very close contact, had a temperature on day 5 but it only lasted two hours at most.

Nsmum14 · 10/12/2021 12:13

My 10 year old DD had two days of feeling a bit off and headachy, then bounced back. Same with my 7 year old DS, and my baby was just sleepy.

Happymum12345 · 10/12/2021 12:14

Sickness, headache and a cough.

cloudiestdays · 10/12/2021 12:17

My 10 year old had it a few weeks ago and she had a really bad headache for a few days and a lingering cough but that was pretty much it.

Underparmummy · 10/12/2021 12:17

9 year old - 4 days bad headaches, peaky, pale, tired. Then absolutely fine, negative on lateral flow by day 5 and climbing the walls for the rest of iso!

10 year old - 4 coughs in the 11 days, lost her sense of smell at end of iso, would never have even considered that she had it if not for close contact pcr

6 year old - dizzy spells, rotten cold that lasted all of isolation

cloudiestdays · 10/12/2021 12:18

Oh yeah her sense of taste was dulled for a week or so

dollywoodlooksgood · 10/12/2021 12:26

We tested DD because she was a close contact of a positive case. She had no symptoms. She went off grapes and on one occasion said a sandwich tasted funny but that was literally it. We didn’t get it but we all wore masks and had windows open. It was very cold! Good luck.

liveforsummer · 10/12/2021 12:37

Dd11 had a positive ltf last night so we've all been for PCRs today. 5 dc from dd8's class tested positive on Wednesday alone so strongly suspect her PCR will be positive as well. I'd say around 60-70% of her year group have now had it as it's been ongoing several positives a week since early October now. Most of them have been asymptomatic and picked up on ltf. Some have had a average cold symptoms. None very unwell. Can't say I'm making any attempt to keep dc separate from each other or myself. Tbh if we all end up positive now I'll be glad it's out the way by Xmas
