Sorry I don’t know if this has already been posted so I’ll apologise if it has. My little boy has just tested positive and we got the results this morning. If it’s the new variant, would I have been told already - I just got the big standard email/text?

If your DS had tested positive for omicron, they would have told you when you got the PCR results.

However, only 10% of PCRs are genetically sequenced to determine which variant a person has though. Some labs can determine whether a case is likely to be omicron as they test for a target on the S-gene that is missing in omicron but it is not conclusive. Most PCR tests in the UK aren't actually able to tell with a case is omicron or not so you can't be sure.

Track and trace called me and said they weren’t sure? And that if I get some More pcr tests through the door then that is why?
