Had a weird vanishing cold… was it Covid?

I had a scratchy throat on Sunday evening and then felt progressively more and more unwell yesterday. Streaming nose, constant sneezing and a truly dreadful hung over feeling. I was convinced I’d wake up feeling absolutely dreadful and have the mother of all colds/ flu like illnesses.

However, I had a good sleep and woke up feeling a little congested in the ears but generally feel quite well now.

I just cannot work out why this illness has been short lived. Colds normally last at least five days.

I took a Covid test first thing and am waiting for results.

I wonder if it is actually Covid and the vaccination explains the short lived symptoms.

Has anyone had similar? Did you test positive?

(PS it’s definitely not allergies)

The exact same thing happens to me this weekend?! It was very random! I did test and it was negative so maybe some bizzare virus going around!

I'm following this as my daughter's cold/cough was very short lived and just vanished overnight! Awaiting pcr results

FluffyCushion123 · 07/12/2021 20:04

Welcome both! So odd, isn’t it?

Me too. I felt ill yesterday. My throat was so sore I could hardly swallow.

Was boiling hot and constantly coughing. Took a test. Negative.

Went to bed, slept for 12 hours and woke up feeling so much better.

LadyCatStark · 07/12/2021 20:06

I had a cold like this a few weeks ago. I felt awful on the Thursday and Friday and I could literally feel myself getting better on the Saturday. Now I have Covid and it does just feel like a cold too.

FluffyCushion123 · 07/12/2021 20:08

@Chesneyhawkes1 how weird!

I went to an event at a venue that seats over 1000 people three days before symptoms… we’ll soon see I suppose.

I’ve had these kinds of colds over the past few years (some pre-Covid). Interspersed with standard 5 day ones.

I feel like I’m so poorly and then wake up the next day, and I’m back to normal! Definitely not allergies either.

They are very strange...

Dp has covid. Lft positive Sunday and confirmed by pcr. His symptoms are like a very mild cold but has since lost his taste and smell. He's sneezy and blowing his nose but not half as congested as you would be with a cold. Day 3 for him now and for now it's still like a very mild cold with the added loss of taste and smell. No cough and no fever. Not feeling poorly at all - he's been outside gardening!! Hoping he won't get worse!

His routine lft was an instant strong positive on Sunday though. He did have a bad migraine on Sunday but gets them anyway. Only tested ss he'd been a contact to someone at work but Fridays pcr had been negative.

Very bizarre virus. How some are seriously ill and others not at all. But we are still early in. Hoping he won't get worse!

I have those symptoms now and am assuming it's a batch of a cold but I did also do a PCR (when I had covid last year my main symptom was a scratchy throat) so interested to see which it is. Apparently according to the Zoe app, sneezing and runny noses are the main covid symptoms amongst the fully vaccinated.

CovidCorvid · 07/12/2021 20:13

I currently have similar symptoms, had them since Sunday. 2x negative LFTs. Don’t actually have any covid symptoms so no pcr.

Had the same only about 5 weeks ago. Bad sore throat, headache, bunged up sinuses but running nose. Only lasted 3-4 days last time.

KylieKoKo · 07/12/2021 20:51

I've had one day colds before but good that you did a test just in case. Fingers crossed it's negative.

rubydoobydoo · 07/12/2021 20:56

Me too - first cold I've had since the pandemic started which I was expecting to completely floor me but it was a breeze!

It definitely wasn't Covid, I've been doing lateral flows every day for work and was invited to do a PCR by the Zoe app - all negative.

MustBeDueSomeBetterFeet · 07/12/2021 21:40

Same here! Caught from the children and expecting a full blown asthma attack but just... went away. Could the Covid vaccine have any effect on other coronaviruses?!

Popfan · 07/12/2021 21:48

My DS had a cold like that, totally streaming and sneezing the first day, streaming and sneezing had mostly stopped the 2nd day and by the third day pretty much ok, just the sore throat lingering a bit. Had a pcr and negative lateral flows so definitely just a cold!

EllieSattler · 08/12/2021 10:51

Got to say, my cold that was absolutely flooring me yesterday is minor today.

Nomorecoco · 08/12/2021 14:22

All 3 of us had this for 2 days, and it was gone by the time my pcr results had come back (negative)

FluffyCushion123 · 08/12/2021 14:27

So interesting to hear all your experiences.

My test result is negative so I can go Christmas shopping in good conscience:)

Get well here, those who are still poorly x

I had something very similar a couple of years ago - turns out I was allergic to the Christmas tree!
Never been allergic to anything before, was surprised how bad it made me feel.

lljkk · 08/12/2021 14:50

I've had 1 day colds for years ( as in, it's rare in last 10 yrs that my colds last more than one day)... I didn't use to be like that. My colds used to last 5days-3 weeks. At some point I changed. Just thinking that can be normal change for other viruses, too.
