There's going to be a lot of people isolating over Christmas isn't there?

Obviously I'm praying I'm not one of them.

We were talking about this at work today. From 15th December, every positive case reported on the news each day will be isolating for Christmas. Plus all their dependants who are affected plus anyone coming into contact with omicron will have to isolate too.

That's a hell of a lot of people unable to have family over / visit etc. Or maybe people are happy with it? (Illness aside obviously) Bit like last years enforced lockdown Christmas that was enjoyed by many. For me, I'd be gutted with house arrest this year, as would my wider family.

No real point to this it was just a bit of a 'oh blimey' moment earlier.

I think people will just not bother testing and say it's a cold. The January spike will be interesting

Nope, people will just stop testing because they won't want to isolate over Christmas, and even if they do test they sure as hell won't name any contacts!

The cases in December will go right down and January will be an absolute shit show.

I think this is exactly what will happen!

People only need to test if it is the 3 main symptoms listed anyway, if people didn't test with every slight sniff then they wouldn't get picked up anyway, maybe it's only on here that people test for every sniff or tickley throat. Government hasn't updated the PCR testing criteria as far as I know

Wouldn't it be lovely to have asymptomatic covid on Christmas eve. Once all the parties have happened and the big shop is stashed away. I cqnt get covid this week, too much to do.

worriedatthemoment · 07/12/2021 21:06

If there not testing all for omicron seems unfair to isolate those they test as could be hundreds with it whose contacts are not isolating
Maybe we will know more by xmas and the isolation may not continue

VikingOnTheFridge · 07/12/2021 21:48

@Neverfittedin85

But that's still a lot of people who will be isolating! That's why the majority of people are changing plans.
It's a lot of people who'll be told to isolate. Not quite the same thing!
yellowgreysocks · 07/12/2021 22:05

Are there REALLY going to be loads of people with symptoms pretending they might not have covid and going to other people's houses or welcoming guests for Xmas hoping no one notices.....really?!

Given Omicron rules, lots of them will be asymptomatic. And there's no reason to assume people ignoring isolation rules will be doing so without the people they're seeing being aware of it. Likely there'll be plenty of mutually agreed isolation rule breaking.
