Swollen armpit after booster jab?

I had my booster last Friday. It was Pfizer, my first 2 vaccines were AZ.

I felt fine Friday night and most of Saturday, but during Saturday evening I felt very ill, like flu. I'd heard this was a common side effect.

The worst thing is, in the arm I had the jab, my armpit is very swollen and tender. I've read this can be a fairly uncommon but not unheard side effect.

It's still very much swollen and uncomfortable.

Did anyone else have this reaction? Is there anyway to ease it and how long did it take to go down?

I had that took about a week... Just some lymph system around the arm going turbo 😜 but yes it was my string side effect after fever. Longest lasting too.

Had the same reaction from the Moderna vaccine for my booster. It's the lymph nodes in your arm pit doing their thing and reacting to the vaccine, making anti bodies. It's a good thing!

Had my booster last wednesday and my armpit is still a bit swollen and sore. It's slowly improving.

I had this after my booster too. Took about a week to completely go.

I should add we had covid in the hosue a few months later and I didn't get it so I guess it worked well for me.

DramaAlpaca · 07/12/2021 00:24

My friend had this too, she said it was very uncomfortable and quite alarming, but she was fine after a few days.

PatsArrow · 07/12/2021 00:25

Wasn't expecting replies so quickly! Thank you all! It's really reassuring to hear that I'm not that unusual after all. I was getting worried that the sweeping hadn't begun to go down, but now I know it will take longer.

Yes, it's uncomfortable, but at least I know the booster has done something!

Sweeping? I mean swelling.

I was ready a research article about this only hours ago and the fact that swollen lymph notes on a mammogram can mimic the look of breast cancer! Its not an uncommon reaction to the vaccine/booster and is simply your bodies reaction to it.

My booster was Pfizer and I had a small lump at the site which was tender for 3 days. I don't remember swollen lymph nodes though. I would think it would go down within a week or 2, but obviously get it checked if you have concerns or its lasting longer.

DS has this at the moment, he will be glad to hear it should not last too much longer. He's been as miserable after the vaccine as he was when he had covid, still glad he's had it done though.

I had this after my second jab in the summer, my armpit ached like mad for a few days and I took paracetamol for it. A while after the second jab I did an antibody test as a volunteer in research and I had loads of antibodies so hopefully your pain will be your body making tons of antibodies too.

HerRoyalNotness · 07/12/2021 01:44

Yep I had that. Think it’s the lymph nodes. For about 4 days. I had moderna booster. No effects from the first 2 doses

kissmelittleass · 07/12/2021 01:53

Yes me I actually had a post up asking the same question about 2-3 weeks ago!!!
I had the Pfizer booster on a Tuesday and the following morning my armpit on the arm I had the vaccine was very tender and swollen. It lasted about 5 maybe 6 days I was quite worried until I asked on here as no one I knew in real life had a sore armpit which funny enough I also got with the flu jab this year too!!

wetwiped · 07/12/2021 02:33

Had Pfizer booster Saturday, my armpit feels exactly the same

Zandra123 · 07/12/2021 02:34

Yes, I had moderna last Monday and the gland in my armpit has been really sore, kept me awake and I needed paracetamol. A week on it's nearly better. I've been surprised at how rough this booster made me feel. Just hoping it's doing its job.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 07/12/2021 02:37

I had Pfizer for my booster a couple of months ago and then developed a swollen armpit. It lasted about 5 days I think. I was quite relieved as it showed my body was reacting to the booster

stevalnamechanger · 07/12/2021 02:47

Yes had this for a week

RavingAnnie · 07/12/2021 03:26

I have had this after my flu jab. Still sore three days later.

AgnesNaismith · 07/12/2021 03:28

Yes and breast cysts which still haven’t gone away following the first two jabs!

ZZTopGuitarSolo · 07/12/2021 03:35

I didn’t get the swollen armpit but I did get swollen neck glands all three times.

A friend got the swollen armpit and was worried for a day then realized what it was. She’s a surgeon… :-)
