Positive lft negative pcr

Back story sons class closed last week due to high cases of covid.
Tested myself and son on Monday both positive lft, other children and partner negative.
Done pcr Tuesday had to be a home test as son has additional needs.
Pcr results come back negative, since Tuesday my son has developed a cough as have i, and I cannot smell a thing.
I'm baffled! Anyone else had this I'm going to do another pcr tomorrow as I want 100% confirmation before I go out that this isn't covid.
Anyone else had this happen?

Just bumping this for you, OP. Hope you're all well again soon either way, and hopefully someone will be along soon with some experience of the same.

You have it, sorry.
A false negative pcr is far more likely than a false positive LF.
This happened with the immensa lab mess, loads of people were told to crack on despite multiple positive LF and the result was skyrocketing case numbers in the south west. If you have symptoms and a positive LF please isolate.

Yes lots of threads on this atm if you search.

I had a couple of faint lines, but also multiple negatives.

Did three PCRs over the course of the week and all negative - no longer trust flowflex LFTs!

Sorry just saw you can't smell- yup that would be covid. Can your son smell?

Get well soon - you'll be fine!

Do another PCR.

Was it a faint positive or strong? My dd had two instances (with a gap of a number of weeks) where she had faint positives but negative PCRs (multiple).

In the end I concluded she must have had covid in the last three months and she’d triggered the LFTs again (she doesn’t do them regularly).

If you're doing the pcr test ensure you are following the time guidelines etc. Apparently lots of postal pcrs not done correctly.

Thanks everyone, I don't know if my son can smell as he is non verbal and can't tell me.
Mine and my sons lft are positive everyone else in the house negative lft, if it wasn't for that I'd think there is an issue with the batch of lft.
We have had positives on flowflex and orient gene tests.
I was going to go for another pcr yesterday then my sister had a major car accident so didn't manage to go.
I'm isolating but the school want my son back at school because of the negative pcr.
I seem to have developed a sore throat today as well.
My positive lines are quite faint but my sons wasn't.

My sister had 3 strong positive lfts and 2 negative pcrs. Really bizarre. She was told she didn’t need to isolate and to assume negative but she didn’t meet with any family or friends for 10 days just in case

JessicaKenny2018 · 06/12/2021 17:56

I'm isolating I would not take the risk

Hope your sister is okay, what a shock. Take care Thanks

JessicaKenny2018 · 06/12/2021 20:29

Thank you, she was really lucky and walked away with very few injuries x
