Should I get a PCR test?

Woke up this morning feeling fine. Went to bootcamp. I know I could smell while I was there as I picked up the scent of someone's perfue and my own washing powder from my clothes.
Got home, started making a curry. It smelled of nothing. Chopped some garlic, couldn't smell it.

Did a LFT and it was negative. Now I have a very slight headache.

Should I isolate? Get a PCR? Are PCRs any better and more reliable than LFTs?

Yes. You should isolate and get a PCR as you have covid symptoms.

FrenchFancie · 03/12/2021 12:46

Yup ‘frais so

WorriedGiraffe · 03/12/2021 12:49

You have a classic main covid symptom so yep you need a PCR test. They are more accurate than LFTs, which arnt recommended once you have symptoms as they just arnt as accurate.

Thank you. I thought so. Damn. Big F2F work meeting tomorrow and now I'll have to let the client down. Sad But better to be on the safe side.

You have covid symptoms so yes.

pianolessons1 · 03/12/2021 14:45

Complete anosmia is very strongly predictive of covid I'm afraid....

sofakingcool · 03/12/2021 15:04

Lack of smell is the only main symptom I've had (had plenty of others!)

polkadotpjs · 04/12/2021 20:44

I would, yes. Hope you're ok

neveradullmoment99 · 04/12/2021 20:46

Someone at my work only had this as their symptom. They tested positive on a PCR.

Whywhywhy48 · 04/12/2021 20:55

I tested positive on Monday after catching it from my husband. Mine symptoms started with cough. Can't smell anything now. Defo book a test.

hivemindneeded · 04/12/2021 21:22

Hope you are OK @Whywhywhy48. I've gone to bed early.

Have you got your pcr booked?

You have one of the three key symptoms of covid. Of course you isolate until you get a negative test back.

I cannot understand how you don’t know this.

HamCob · 04/12/2021 21:31

Lateral flow tests are pretty useless in our experience. My husband felt unwell for 4 days with a sore throat, cold etc. LFTs didn't become positive until day 4.
DS was also positive but only showed up on a PCR, didn't ever test positive on LFT

Campfirewood · 04/12/2021 21:33

I had 3 days of symptoms before my positive lateral flow. I’d definitely test and keep testing! Sorry Op (let’s hope I’m wrong!).

Presumably you did a pcr and isolated as soon as your official covid symptoms started?

Test booked for this morning and I now feel knackered with a headache, so probably not going anywhere for 10 days.
