I had my booster on Wednesday (it's early Friday morning now). I had a mild cold when I had it which may have been foolish but I feel really rough and feel like my sense of smell has changed. It's more than in a cold way but who knows. My question is, will the fact that I have had my booster now mean I have covid in my system and give a positive PCR when I actually just have a cold? I have been in a bit of contact with someone who tested positive but not long enough to be classed as a close contact

Sounds far more plausible that your mild cold was covid in the first place...

PanettoneSeason · 03/12/2021 03:43

@stupiduser As far as I’m aware, none of the covid vaccines are live vaccines so having the booster won’t make you have covid in your system. I’d be getting a PCR since you have symptoms and have been in contact with a known positive case

That's what I considered but have had several negative lfts. I have ordered a pcr because of the loss of smell but have been taking lfts every day as have my children who were in momentary contact with this person

@PanettoneSeason that makes sense, thanks. I have booked a pcr.

Annecdotally locally it seems a fair few people have had negative lfts and positive pcrs.

A couple of months ago it seemed the opposite was happening ...!!

Good luck

The vaccine can't give a positive test- so if you did end up with a positive it would be because you have Covid. You could also just have a bad cold/flu. Hope you feel better soon.
