If someone tests positive on a lateral flow does their ten day isolation start from that point or the point at which a pcr test confirms it?

The positive lft date or the onset of symptoms if they’ve had them.

Jelly0naplate · 03/12/2021 00:10

Please remember, if you isolating due to a positive result and are asymptomatic and then on day 3 you get symptoms your isolation resets at that point and you restart the 10 days isolation

Date of PCR test or symptoms if they were earlier.

jingletits36 · 03/12/2021 07:27

This is really confusing!

The reason I ask is because my sons school has had lots of cases lately so I've PCR tested him as a precaution (no symptoms) and am waiting for the results to come back. I had to do a postal test as there are currently no test sites within 50 miles of me.

If his result comes back positive we will all need to PCR test but delivery of kits and results are taking a long time at the moment. I ordered my sons on Monday, posted it Tuesday and still haven't had results. So I wondered if any of us tested positive on a LFT would be be able to count that as isolation day 1.

Wow, I’m wrong. I’ve read that guidance lots before. Has it changed?
I’ll get my previous post withdrawal so I don’t end up misleading anyone.

If you report and register the lft you should be okay. A number of parents & children have been stung at our school by not registering positive lfts on the nhs site and therefore their isolatons have only started with the pcr result.
