Omicron out-competing Delta...

I'm not sure I understand how this works...If I had Delta, and mixed with people enough to infect them, how does the presence of Omicron in other people interfere with me passing on Delta given that only about 1-2% of the population is infected at any one point?

I think we are waiting on scientists doing research first before we know the answers.

Mind you, this being mumsnet, there's sure to be an expert along any minute.

I think it’s more to do with the split between delta and omicron at any time - so a larger proportion of one vs the other. It’s actually quite natural that omicron will take over given than lots of people have already had delta and the vaccines likely give better protection. It will be ok if omicron is less severe than delta, and doesn’t result in hospitalisation.

And if the vaccines still offer protection against it.

But we'll need to wait to find out.
