Are pcr tests for close contacts compulsory?

Could probably find this out online but in a rush and it's not for me.

Dp has come home from work and there's 2 people at his work who's spouses have tested positive - live in same house. The people in dp's work are double jabbed so well within their rights to be at work which is fine but they haven't pcr tested when asked. Unsure if they don't lft, probably have. But I thought pcr was recommended.

Dp does have a leader role there running their shift. He's not sure if he can ask them to get a pcr? He doesn't have much authority to do so but he's a little worried there could be an outbreak. They've worked throughout the whole thing and only had 2-3 cases.

also, his work have requested mask wearing from today but many people have refuzed.

He plans to mention it to someone higher up but unsure about the pcr testing results.

We've never been a close contact that we know of so new to us.

To add the two positive people are closely connected as the couples are friends out of work. The two people have it but obviously don't live together. Their husbands work together and currently don't have symptoms.

No tests are compulsory in Englans afaik and never have been. We shouldn't be forcing anyone, that's a slippery slope

ILookAtTheFloor · 30/11/2021 16:02

No. They can't force you.

actiongirl1978 · 30/11/2021 16:03

Absolutely not.

Recommended but not compulsory. When DD got covid none of us tested until we got symptoms.

No- when DS tested positive I was told that they 'strongly advise' close contacts get a PCR.

Jelly0naplate · 30/11/2021 16:11

he can advise them to get the recommended PCR test as a close contact but you can't ask them to and it's their choice if the do or do not have the pcr.
