Those two headlines are not at odds with each other in terms of factual points being made. One is stating that covid hospitalisation have increased in the province where the omicron strain was discovered. Not that those hospitalisations were from the omicron strain. The other is stating that there have been no omicron admissions to hospital or recorded deaths in SA as yet.

I agree that the DM is hedging it's bets here by giving the superficial impression of two differing points of view, but really both headlines are saying the same thing which is that it's too early to say either way.

I agree. I knew that hospitalisations had significantly increased. Is it due to this variant? No one knows.

The first one doesn't say that those hospitalisations were due to Covid either.
