DS13 tested positive

Our DS got up yesterday morning with a bad headache, gave him paracetamol and he seemed OK. Then last night he started with a really sore throat so I did a covid test (LFT) and it came up positive. Booked him for a pcr test and I've informed the school.

He looks awful though, he has a high temp along with an awful cough and he has said his chest hurts when he breathes. He's also completely lost his appetite.

I've given him more Calpol today but does anyone have any helpful suggestions? We've all tested negative thankfully, all double or triple jabbed.

Thanks x

No suggestions, just wanted you to know you're not alone. DS12 tested positive on Saturday, his main symptom was sore eyes and feeling shivery. That's better now and he's just got a chesty cough and lots of snot, temp hasn't gone any higher than 37.8. I'm hoping he won't get any worse but I know symptoms can progress/change as time goes on. Hope your DS improves quickly. I've got another DS who is 7 - he's negative on lft but I've kept him off school and will PCR tomorrow.

My DS is eating me out of house and home, strange how it affects everyone differently.

Whatdoyawannado · 29/11/2021 14:06

Out of interest, are you keeping him isolated in the house?

Hodl · 29/11/2021 14:28

It's strange the way it affects everyone differently. Normally DS has a great appetite but he skipped breakfast and has just managed a sandwich then.

@Whatdoyawannado
He's spent most of the morning in bed but we're not isolating from him, are we meant to?

It's up to you whether you want to isolate from him or not. Tbh it may be too late (on the other hand you may not catch it at all). As for your ds, best thing for him is rest and hydration. Paracetamol or ibruphrophen if needed for pain or fever. The cough can be quite nasty (if he gets one, may not) and, if it is, a humidifier can help.

Sorry I don't have any words of advice but just wanted to also let you know your not alone. My 11 year old DD tested positive on LFT this morning after feeling unwell which started yesterday. She started with a headache and sore eyes yesterday, very tired and sleepy and also feeling warm. She still has an appetite but is now starting to cough an awful wet sounding cough. We are just waiting for PCR results. Hope your son feels better soon. At least it's before Christmas.

My ds13 had it in Sept the first few days were the worst for him but he perked up on day4/5 just keep on top off the paracetamol an ibuprofen for his temp make sure he's drinking and eating if he will. My ds never isolated in his bedroom and I did catch it but thankfully wasn't to bad with it.
Hope he's feeling better soon.

Whatdoyawannado · 29/11/2021 14:57

@Cherrytart23 how soon after did you test positive? Our DS is spending most of the day in his room but door open and coming out for meals/to use the bathroom/play on the X box occasionally as it's downstairs in the lounge. So not isolating as such, just trying to decrease the viral load!

My DS 14 had it at the beginning of November, low grade fever and horrendous cough. Myself & DD 17 took a PCR at the same time and were negative, 48 hours later and beginning to feel a bit ropey I tested feint positive on LFT followed by positive PCR. DD and DH remained symptom free and negative throughout. I'm assuming I didn't produce as strong antibodies to the vaccines as my DH as we were all equally exposed before DS tested positive, initially tired to isolate him but gave up once I tested positive too. I was due my booster today but thinking I will now just wait until the New Year.

Our 13 year old has just had it over half term, they were vomiting for 24 hrs followed by shocking headache. No cough at all.

@whatdoyawannado He tested positive on pcr on the Monday I tested on the Thursday. My dd6 never caught it tho.
