Do they get told? I guess T and T will he heavily monitoring them, will they get told they have the Omricon. I assume their close contacts will have to isolate even if they are double vaccinated.

They will have to be as there are different isolation rules.

They will be informed as they will be doing enhanced contact tracing for these cases, identifying their contacts (who have to isolate, regardless of vaccination status) and I'm sure will be followed up even more than usual by T&T.

Yes as the rules are different if you have it, which is why I think people will now go "under the radar" and just not get tested but do their own isolation off the back of an LFT test

I think the reporting has been really misleading especially as the stats behind severe disease are all based on SA patients - most of whom haven’t even received 1 vaccination against the normal Covid strains. The truth is we have no idea how deadly this virus is - some researchers think it might be more virulent but less deadly than the other strains because South African death stats don’t seem to have spiked.

What I wondered is the different rules for household isolation if it’s omnicron- when you go to test, is everyone supposed to self isolate until it is confirmed not to be omnicron or not?

Apparently only 50% of PCR tests can quickly identify whether it’s Omicron or Delta, so there’ll be a lot of cases that aren’t identified in time for isolation of Omicron contacts to be effective.

I think they will for the first few .
But then when we have hundreds/thousands in a couple of weeks of new omicron positives they'll calm down a bit.
