do I have to isolate?

Sorry for posting again but can’t seem to find this info online. I think my DD may have COVID (age 4). If she does, do I have to isolate under the new rules? I’m double jabbed. Will I get told which variant she has, if she tests positive?

Okay I’ve found this incase anyone else is confused ,..

Anyone who has come into contact with a person suspected of suffering from the Omicron variant must self-isolate at home for ten days, regardless of their vaccination status

How do you know which variant you have?

I assume if they tell you after a PCR….so at this point it would be very few people, you’d have to be a contact of one of the people whose cases are currently newsworthy! Your daughter is way more likely to have Δ at the moment. Once O is more widespread, maybe we won’t just get positive or negative PCR results, maybe we’ll be told positive delta, or positive omicron etc.

There are 3 O cases in the UK so unless she has been in contact with anyone recently back from Africa, the chances of O are pretty miniscule. I'm sure they will be on the phone pretty fast if it was O.

As a double jabbed with no symptoms, no you don't have to isolate so if you have childcare you can go to work or go shopping etc. would be cautious though - mask wearing, social distancing and not going to crowded places. If your DS gets a positive test you should get a pcr too!

But no at the mo they don't routinely tell you what variant it is but they probably would if it was the new variant - but IMO it's highly unlikely your Dd has the new variant at this point.

I hope she's better soon 💕
