WWYD - work event

DH is immune suppressed and qualified for an extra dose of the vaccine (ie 3 doses plus booster) because there is a question mark around vaccine efficacy for him. He was shielding (when shielding was a thing) and has a number of risk factors.

We are generally pretty cautious but we have a DS in school and I go into the office a couple of days each week.

I have a work / networking do coming up which will involve a couple of hundred people in an enclosed space. Would you cancel if you were in my shoes? There won't be any fall out for me if I cancel other than my boss probably rolling their eyes a bit.

Appreciate the risk is very small for most people but I have to factor in the need to keep DH safe so far as that is possible.

6If cancel in a heartbeat. Wouldn't even consider it.

PutThatDownNow · 28/11/2021 13:01

Yes. I would. Explain that you are, trying to avoid unnecessary risks. This doesn't sound like an necessary risk. They definitely shouldn't eye roll, ignore if they do. Good luck.

AshGirl · 28/11/2021 13:47

Thanks both! I know they shouldn't roll their eyes but I have often felt like I am making an unnecessary fuss over the last year and a half, despite explaining DH's vulnerability.

I would if I could.

However I have just had a 3rd primary dose and have to mix with Marge numbers in my job, face to face, sadly and have no choice. If I had a choice I would not mix!

I’d cancel.
I’m in a similar situation and I don’t go anywhere without a mask on to try and protect DP. I definitely wouldn’t be in a room with a couple of hundred people -even if they were all wearing masks!

nordica · 28/11/2021 15:41

I would cancel too.

Verite1 · 28/11/2021 15:57

I caught Covid at a similar event recently (I think). Though I didn’t pass it on to DD or DH!

friendlycat · 28/11/2021 16:14

I would cancel without hesitation.
