Spain effectively banning UK children from entering country

Anyone planning a Christmas holiday to Spain or the Canaries? You might have to rethink your plans. News broke overnight that Spain is only allowing fully vaccinated – ie, double jabbed – travellers from the UK and NI to enter the country, meaning anyone over 12 won't get in because they're only allowed one jab as things stand.

@ComeAllYeFaithful

Well Spain and the canaries can lose out on their tourism money then can’t they Grin
Maybe they think their citizens' safety is more important?
Rocaille · 28/11/2021 16:19

Well, holidaying in Spain isn't a human right.

This.

This is what taking back control of our borders after Brexit looks like.
luverlybubberly · 28/11/2021 18:31

It's only 12-15 year olds who are affected and they may get their second jab next year anyway?
Considering the majority voted for Brexit I think people in the UK should respect rules that other countries introduce to protect their interests.

luverlybubberly · 28/11/2021 18:33

Presumably this will change when Spain analyse the devastating effect on their tourist industry.

It's really going to devastate their tourism industry when UK 12-15 year olds can't travel this Christmas Hmm

vickyc90 · 28/11/2021 18:40

If you have any familial links to mainland Europe apply for the appropriate passport. We do and are watching that countries policies very closely once they start vaccinating 8 year olds we will be heading out to get it done for our son

poshme · 28/11/2021 18:55

@ApplesAreTheBaneOfMyLife how did you get proof of the vaccine afterwards please?
This is my issue- proving my kids have had a vaccine.

Ooh. Now that's very interesting.

ApplesAreTheBaneOfMyLife · 28/11/2021 19:32

I’ve just reported my own post to ask for it to be deleted as I probably should have blanked out the QR code too. Will repost once MNHQ have deleted it.

@ApplesAreTheBaneOfMyLife

This is the card you get. First dose was in the UK.
Please ask MN to remove your post. It includes batch numbers and vaccination dates - very useful information for forgers which puts us all at risk
SageRosemary · 28/11/2021 20:16

Also, I can see you posted something previously which has now been deleted.

Your current post shows a vaccination record but it is not an EU Digital Covid Certificate. The card you have shown wouldn't even get you into a restaurant in Ireland never mind through airport control! That card is more for letting doctors know which batch you received in the event of an adverse reaction to the vaccine, or for showing the date you received your first vaccination showing it has been at least 2 weeks previously.

poshme · 28/11/2021 20:45

She had previously put up a pic of a proper pass- which was immensely helpful for me to see- as it shows that this might be a possibility for us.

thebakeoffwasntasgoodthisyear · 28/11/2021 20:50

Apples - how did you get the digital certificate, did they email it to you? We are in NI and considering trying to get DC a second dose in ROI if possible. We have Irish passports but no address we can use

ApplesAreTheBaneOfMyLife · 28/11/2021 20:54

This is the digital certificate

I'm Spanish and I, and many others, find it fascinating to see how half of Britain thinks they're the ones keeping Spain's economy alive by going to Mallorca or Tenerife once a year.

This might have been true 20 years ago but it's definitely not true anymore.

British tourists are being replaced by Germans, Dutch and Scandinavian. All of which will have double-vaccinated teens.

Thanks to Covid, the country has taken immense steps towards diversifying its economy and industries, and is relying less on tourism than before.

No, the country won't go bankrupt because British teens and their parents can't travel to the Canaries anymore this Christmas.

Others will come. Spanish people might actually be able to afford a holiday in the Canaries themselves now, who knows.

It's not Spain making it impossible for UK teens to travel. They're just applying the same rule other European countries already have in place. Surprise surprise, citizens from the other 26 EU state members will have no issue holidaying in Spain, because their kids have been fully jabbed for a while now.

TKRedLemonade · 28/11/2021 23:50

I’m surprised you could just pop over for a vaccine in Dublin. We all needed pps number to get ours and also massive queues now for boosters so might not be as easy as it was a few weeks to just pop in

luverlybubberly · 29/11/2021 16:21

It was announced today that 12-15 year olds can have a second dose at least 12 weeks after their first dose.

PAFMO · 29/11/2021 16:24

So, rather than (as you suggested earlier) the Spanish govt would backtrack once it realised it wouldn't be getting the British shilling, it's the British govt backtracking and finally coming into line with almost everywhere else on vaccines. Funny old world innit.
Fairylights25 · 29/11/2021 19:25

Just because children can have vaccines, it does not mean parents will necessarily feel comfortable in doing so, given some vaccines have been banned from Nordic countries, so the countries that have become much too draconian are likely to lose out on the tourism revenue they rely on. Particularly if the vaccines become compulsory for all children, even very young children, regardless of age, which is likely in said countries.
It is likely many families will just book countries like Greece next year where they can be sure of a warm welcome, and can keep their options open on vaccines for their children until more data is available PAFMO

Given Spain are yet to produce a single covid vaccine or covid treatment, I hardly think they are leading the way! Confused

luverlybubberly · 29/11/2021 19:30

@PAFMO The Hmm emoji was to the poster who thought that the Spanish government would do a u-turn because they couldn't cope without British tourists. It was meant as a sarcastic/sceptical "Really?"

BungleandGeorge · 29/11/2021 19:33

Good news for the kids second dose. Not sure the ‘draconian’ countries will miss out on tourism as those of us with vaccinated kids may well choose to go there and reduce our risk of picking up covid on the journey!

Fairylights25 · 29/11/2021 19:38

Except the vaccines dont actually stop you catching covid! bungle
Seriously can't believe we are still even having this conversation!
