Parosmia after COVID.

I had COVID in October 2020, contracted from work in the pre-vaccine days. I lost my sense of taste completely, I struggled to breath, had a terrible headache, no pressure in my ears, poor oxygen saturation, had to sleep sitting up. Was not hospitalised.

After having Covid and when I started to get my taste back, I had random moments where things tasted gone off, mouldy, like literally rubbish. But it wasn't everything I ate, and it wasn't all the time.
That's carried on, and randomly something will smell or taste like rubbish, literally like a wheelie bin on a hot day, or taste like petrol, or rotten. Or I'll randomly be able to smell gas or petrol or rotting food or bin.

I have today discovered (watching a tiktok no less!) That there's a name for this...and it's actually been reported by healthline.com as something younger people have reported experiencing post COVID.
I'll be honest, for a year I've thought I'm just crazy, kind of losing my mind, put it down to stress.

Thought I'd share if anyone else was experiencing the same!

Hi I’m suffering the same I had covid in September fluey like symptoms and lost my taste and sense of smell, had parosmia then it came back fine after 3 weeks. (So I thought). Until recently These past few weeks Iv just randomly started smelling a rotten smell after going to the toilet , I thought I had some kind of bowel infection if that’s even a thing. Then my partner cooked a lobby and I could smell THAT exact smell🤢 so now Iv worked out it’s my sense of smell playing up any naturally bad smells, poo , grease, and some meat give me that horrid smell. Iv not got covid again as I work in care home and get tested both pcr and lft weekly. Im so confused I don’t know what to think it’s getting me down I thought My sense of smell had already recovered I’m now worried if it’s ever going sort itself out again or not. Doctor not really interested and said it seems common. How are you doing with it now?

Op, that must be awful. I had covid in December and everything smelt and tasted off for a few weeks which was bad enough. Cannot imagine it going on for longer! It's definitely a thing! I can smell smoke occasionally since too - when theres no smoke.

For me it's a constant smell of cigarette smoke. Sometimes I get waves of it, overpoweringly strong, other times just a whiff. It's a taste as well as a smell. Gross.
