Did Covid affect your cycle?

Hi, sorry if this has been asked before. I had Covid 4 weeks ago and it seems to have messed my periods up. Sorry if too much information but while I had Covid I had an early kind of period (more brown discharge really). Then I had my normal period which lasted a week as normal. Since then I’ve kept thinking I was coming on again (as in I’ve had spotting) but it’s only lasted sort of a day at a time.
Has anyone else had Covid muck up their usually regular as clockwork cycle?

Ooh I'm interested in this op. I currently have Covid and am due to start IVF soon. I hope it doesn't bugger it up

Sooverthemill · 27/11/2021 20:38

Yes it totally destroyed my DDs cycle. She has endometriosis and we had just found a pill that stopped her periods then she had the vaccination and they have come back. Totally shit. It's a well known side effect and it's being researched.

Did your daughter have Covid? You've linked to a vaccine thing?

Thatswhatmamasaid · 27/11/2021 20:49

I had it last year (was 37 at the time) and it didn't affect my cycle at all.

Beesneeze82 · 27/11/2021 20:49

Yes. I'm 5.5 weeks post PCR. I had a weird two day light bleed around ovulation. V unusual for me.

Sooverthemill · 27/11/2021 20:50

No the vaccine. Covid itself can also cause changes in menstrual cycle in about 25% of people. That is also being researched.

Spacemonkey2016 · 27/11/2021 20:52

I suspect I have covid (awaiting pcr to comfirm) and I was thinking this too. My period has always been like clockwork, but it's arrived a week early, for the first time ever.

murcimari · 27/11/2021 21:07

Have you been vaccinated? I heard those who had the vaccine are more prone to having issues with their cycles either via further vaccinations or coming down with covid. Also, being or recently having been on contraception make a huge difference (for the worse).

Fastbeatheart · 27/11/2021 21:11

@murcimari yes I’ve had two jabs. No contraception though. I’m late 40s so was kind of wondering whether to blame menopause or Covid. I do think it’s more likely to be Covid though. I wonder if it’s going to settle down ever.

I didn’t have a period for 6 months about 4 months after I had covid. It was bliss! No pregnancy and no period.

Fastbeatheart · 27/11/2021 21:28

@Stinkywizzleteets I would far rather it be that way round than this every other day pretending to be a period thing I’ve been stuck with!!

Yep was due to Day 5 after positive PCR and didn’t arrive until just over 3 weeks later. Then it only lasted one day.

sachaf08 · 27/11/2021 22:27

I had covid in October, had my usual period bang on time two weeks ago and then on Friday had a random episode of spotting which has never ever happened before- now wondering if there’s a connection!

PrimalLass · 27/11/2021 22:40

Yes. It's like I missed ovulation for 3 cycles (so had three week cycles not four). The vaccination did too.

PrimalLass · 27/11/2021 22:41

I had covid in March April 2020 so not vaccinated then.
Crapoldwardrobe · 27/11/2021 23:01

Yep, Had Covid last month and since then had three heavy periods ( with clots )
First period started as brownish discharge and then got heavier. Think it started day one or two of positive PCR

fourandahalfkids · 28/11/2021 03:42

Yes. I had covid at the beginning of October. Had 2 days of the brownish discharge you talk about when my period was due. The following month was the heaviest period I have ever had. Full of clots. I usually have fairly light periods. Waiting to see what will happen next time.

thetrolleywitch · 28/11/2021 23:21

I was five days late after having had covid. My ten days of isolation fell pretty much half way through my cycle. I'm normally completely regular, no contraception.
