No, freedom day has passed. The pandemic is almost over, restrictions won't be reintroduced into the UK.
TwilightSkies · 27/11/2021 19:36

The pandemic is almost over

😂 what are you basing that on?

xxxGirlCrushxxx · 27/11/2021 19:36

Nah.... it's just another variant. Cannot see people being accepting of lockdown, masks or further vaccinations

We've all had enough I think!

Carrotte · 27/11/2021 19:37

I don't think anyone really knows. It's like how we were doing really well then delta happened. I think this is just life now and it makes me so sad.

Sparklingbrook · 27/11/2021 19:37

No we are not back to square one. Why would you even think that?

Carrotte · 27/11/2021 19:38

Square one was pretty shit mind. Like no one knew anything much and it took a while for people to be told to open windows and stuff. And everyone was just panicking and washing their shopping.

Dodie66 · 27/11/2021 19:38

Masks it is then

UnmentionedElephantDildo · 27/11/2021 19:39

No - we know a lot more about treatments.

If hospitals fill up, then we might need to re-introduce some SD (looks as if a couple of measures might be put in place again whilst assessing how much harm a new variant might cause, on the grounds that you don't want a harmful variant to seed widely whilst still assessing whether harmful or not). But it is highly likely to be less extensive than at the very start. If people comply, then there should be no need whatsoever to escalate

Carrotte · 27/11/2021 19:39

The pandemic is almost over it will never be over. This is it now.

Quartz2208 · 27/11/2021 19:40

No we are not back to square one

Alltheblue · 27/11/2021 19:43

No because we have all the vaccine knowledge and capability now and it's highly unlikely our current vaccine won't still have effect.

Bobholll · 27/11/2021 19:46

Of course not. Even Whitty has said the vaccines will at minimum offer some protection & more likely a fair bit of protection against serious illness. We also perhaps more importantly have life saving drugs now that are incredibly effective. We know loads about covid now.

And frankly, unless this variant is super deadly, most people will not go back to a full lockdown

We are the opposite of back to square one.

Bobholll · 27/11/2021 19:48

*posted too soon.. most people will at least continue to see family & friends at home even if we are not allowed up in public. People want their lives back. We’ve got them back for the most part, it’ll take a lot for people to give that up again.

xxxGirlCrushxxx · 27/11/2021 19:52

Not going through mask wearing again either

Done with that

Figgrow · 27/11/2021 19:55

@Carrotte

The pandemic is almost over it will never be over. This is it now.
Of course it will be, pandemics get downgraded over time. Covid-19 will be around forever to some degree and in some form, but the pandemic will be over.

And no OP, square one was knowing nothing about this novel virus, populations having absolutely zero immunity (via vaccine or natural), no one sure of the best way to treat it or how it affected the human body, no testing, no idea how it spread. We know have much more knowledge about it, and the variants even if they prove to be terrible and evade vaccines we have strong building blocks; vaccines can be tweaked fairly quickly, for example.

MarshaBradyo · 27/11/2021 19:56

No not square one

But no one knows fully yet about what it will be

jgw1 · 27/11/2021 19:58

@Carrotte

The pandemic is almost over it will never be over. This is it now.
Nonsense Boris said quite clearly that once freedom day had happened the thing was done.
ChocolateDeficitDisorder · 27/11/2021 19:59

No, freedom day has passed. The pandemic is almost over, restrictions won't be reintroduced into the UK.
@jgw1
I think you mean in England. I'm in Scotland, we still have restrictions and a lower case rate. I fully expect our restrictions to be increased in the coming months.

Well if your Scottish assembly doesn't have the sense to have freedom day as well, that is hardly Boris' fault is it.
sarah246 · 27/11/2021 20:01

@xxxGirlCrushxxx

Not going through mask wearing again either

Done with that

But they're now mandatory again in shops and on public transport so will you just be avoiding these then?
Anothernamechange3 · 27/11/2021 20:03

@xxxGirlCrushxxx

Not going through mask wearing again either

Done with that

Has mask wearing in shops and on public transport not just been made mandatory again?
Alltheblue · 27/11/2021 20:05

We also perhaps more importantly have life saving drugs now that are incredibly effective.

Good point

Luredbyapomegranate · 27/11/2021 20:05

Well that is just stupid, wearing a mask is any easy and effective thing to do.

No we aren’t back to square 1, the vaccines should offer good protection, possibly really good protection, and for those that get ill much more is known about treating it.

However, if you haven’t be vaccinated, now is the time..

november90 · 27/11/2021 20:05

It's a new variant, just like the last. It's something we'll have to live with and accept will keep happening. Do your best to stay safe, but try and keep looking forward and stay as positive as you can!

Alltheblue · 27/11/2021 20:07

Not going through mask wearing again either. Done with that

I wonder if you'd be the type who refused to put up your black out blinds during the blitz.
